Typical cycling injuries

Injuries are almost always related to an incorrect position on the bike

El Cycling Like the other sports modalities, they cause a series of injuries, almost always related to the incorrect position on the bicycle, either due to a wrongly placed pedal, a saddle that is too high or poor posture during exercise.

Among the most common injuries are:

Patellar Tendinitis

Caused almost always by a saddle that is too low or by maintaining high gears for a long time during exercise. The gluteus is inhibited and the quadriceps supports more load and exceeds its work, transmitting that tension to the tendon. It is important to modify the seat, to alternate phases of rest and to analytically strengthen the quadriceps

Achilles Tendinitis

It can be caused by excessive use and it can also be likely to arise from an incorrect fit of the bike. Sometimes it is convenient to lower the saddle a little and make sure that the fixing system is well positioned.

Low back pain

Due to excessive flexion of the lumbar spine, the muscles become overloaded and even nervous entrapments such as sciatica can occur. We can prevent it with a correct toning and strengthening of the known "core"

Trapeze and neck overload

Due to the position on the bike, it is very common to activate the trigger points of the trapeze, causing contractures and pains referred to by the neck and head region. Important to stretch before and after exercise and strengthen the area.

Nervous trapping of the hand

Due to the pressure exerted by the handlebars, entrapment in the median nerve (carpal tunnel) or the ulnar nerve can be caused. Both present with paresthesia, lack of strength and alteration in sensitivity. Before this, consult with your doctor and specialist.
