Challenge Wānaka 2026 celebrates its 20th edition with 3.000 triathletes and a powerful professional lineup
The Challenge Wānaka 2026 takes place this February 21st in New Zealand with more than 3.000 participants and a professional field of 22 triathletes in the middle distance.
The New Zealand test reaches its Edition 20 which has become one of the most established events in calendar Challenge FamilyWhat began in 2007 with just 85 participants is now a three-day festival in Central Wānaka, with an international presence and a strong popular base.
In previous editions, the race has already produced some highlights, such as the podium finish of Sebastian Kienle at Challenge Wānaka or the implementation of the system RaceRanger in age groups, which made the event a benchmark in the fight against drafting.
The elite distance will be the usual middle distance: 1,9 km swim in Lake Wanaka, 90 km cycle to Mt Aspiring National Park and 21,1 km run along the lake shore.
Open duel in the men's category
The focus will be on the clash between the local favorites and the European powerhouse.
Mike Phillips, three-time champion of HOMBRE DE HIERRO New Zealand will finally be looking for a home victory in an event where they have already reached the podium. Facing them will be Jack moody, double champion in Wānaka and one of the most solid runners in the final segment.
The main international name is German. Frederic FunkA middle-distance specialist and one of the strongest cyclists on the circuit. If he manages to pick the pace in the 90km stage, he could influence the race before T2.
