The Club Atlético Melilla was created as an athletics club in 1999. In 2006, it created the triathlon section, at the request of athletes who wanted to practice triathlon, and two years later, it promoted the creation of the Melilla Triathlon Federation. Currently, the club has more licenses in triathlon than in athletics, with 80 licenses, of which 20 are for absolute triathletes. The competitions in which they participate are mostly those held in the calendar autonomous community of Melilla, also participating in tests in Andalusia.
