How to train pre-season swimming?

The preseason is the key moment to focus your attention on the swimming segment

Swimming Without a doubt, the preseason is the key moment to focus your attention on the swimming segment and mainly on the technique. Keep reading and we tell you how to do it.

To start the triathlon preseason, approximately in October, you will not need excessive volume not a very high intensity, but rather patience and perseverance in training.

Focus on technique

Our advice is that you use a couple of months to focus on the technique, this means that a coach can observe and correct you in each training and also take into account 3 basic guidelines to improve in swimming:

  • Relaxation. Any extra muscular tension will make the movements not fluid and you cannot apply the force for the displacement.
  • Patience. Errors are not modified with a simple exercise. Each athlete needs his time of assimilation and repetition until he can modify a wrong pattern.
  • Constancy. If you let many days pass between each training it will cost you even more to improve the technique, at least 3 days a week you must train the swimming technique

Follow these simple 4 steps

To assimilate the technique and integrate it into your usual swim you can follow these 4 steps:

Perform analytical exercises that seek the correction of errors with the help of material that facilitates its execution (fins, blades, pull, board, tuba)

Repeat the exercises without auxiliary materials and try to make modifications that increase the degree of difficulty of the exercises.

Integrate technical changes in the swim at a comfortable or smooth pace with or without material

Integrate technical changes in different swimming rhythms, so that the objective during exercises of greater intensity is to correctly perform the swimming technique and not the time to cover a certain distance

These steps are not watertight, that is, you can do several of them in the same session for a certain movement or you can set each step as the objective of a different session.

From our experience we can tell you that the most important thing to improve in swimming is to have the possibility of constant correction of a coach during your workouts, so if you want to improve do not hesitate to put yourself in the hands of a professional.
