Advice from Gurutze Frades about height training

The triathlete gives us some tips to train in height

 

In these days Gurutze Frades together with your coach Roberto Corujo They are in Sierra Nevada preparing the next objectives of the season. We have contacted them, on the one hand Roberto has explained the objectives of this concentration and how Gurutze is at the moment:

Before facing the period with the 2 most important competitions of the first part of the season (70.3 of Mallorca and IM of Brazil), we have included a cycle of 3 weeks of training in height.

In Spain we have one of the best centers of high performance in height, Sierra Nevada. Apart from the performance that can be obtained by performing this type of training, the CAR Sierra Nevada offers perfect facilities and care for the athlete to ensure maximum performance, concentration and rest.

Although there is scientific evidence of the benefits of height training, the physiological response to this type of training is not the same for everyone. In our case, we had data of a concentration in 2015, in which the response had been positive obtaining good results in competition to 10, 16 and 21 days after the period in altitude. That is why this year we have planned this cycle.

As well, we have asked Guru to cite us 5 tips to keep in mind about altitude training

1 - Structuring the stay with a coach or someone who can advise us on how to fit the concentration at the time of the season, the duration of it as well as inserting the intensity of the training.
2 - Arrive at these days in altitude in good health and especially with iron levels in good condition.

3 - The caloric expenditure and dehydration is greater and needs to be met. You have to eat well and drink more than usual. The mineral salts help this hydration.
4 - Workouts should start quietly, the rhythms softer and the breaks longer. According to the individual experience they will adapt.
5 - You have to protect yourself from the sun and be careful with hot or cold temperatures.

Lastly, we want to send a lot of encouragement to Guru and Rober, and we hope that this hard training of their fruits, both in the 70.3 in Mallorca and in the IM of Brazil and in June, can be classified for Kona in your pocket.
