When is the best time to do a stress test?

It is important to detect when is the most useful time to perform it

 

Many times we hear the term "Stress Test", but we don't know when is the best time to do it. Well, in this article, our collaborator OHP Medical Center, tells us when to perform it.

 

 

In the practice of endurance sports it is interesting to know the aerobic capacity (VO2max) or maximum oxygen consumption, but it is still more useful to determine with maximum precision the aerobic thresholds y anaerobic.

 

It is necessary to detect which is the best moment of the season to perform the stress test, depending on our goals or objectives that we have set, this information will be more useful.

 

We can foresee that beginning of a season and from the beginning of the practice of a novel sport it is advisable to perform the stress test.

 

In Triathlon veterans, who at first have neglected their physical form, it is advisable not to overload the cardiovascular and locomotor systems.

 

During the season, if no assessment has been made, the coach will appreciate knowing the real state of thresholds and program with the best guarantees the training, obtaining the results in the most successful way.

 

Sometimes, before a specific competition, the possibility of carrying out a Ergospirometric test to strengthen the rhythms and know if the training has been effective in sports performance.

 

Therefore, if someone asks us When is it better to take the test? Before starting, at mid-season, before or after the competition, we must consider when the information that gives us is more useful.

 

We must bear in mind that if at the beginning of the season we intend to train above our means, we are on our way to overtraining.

 

 

 If mid-season we did not perform as expected, the data obtained from the test we program again the objective. If we do not know the pace or even if we can finish a competition, the test will give us information to get rid of doubts.

 

To finish we must consider that the imperative to perform the test, is of course when the coach needs information on the physiology of the triathlete who is training

 

In conclusion, the most appropriate time will be the one that takes us out of doubt.
