Do you want to prepare a cyclist test in stages with Cross training?

Yessica Peréz, winner of the Doñana Challenge and Mavi Garcia, Duatlon LD Champion of Spain and bronze in the World Cup, give us their advice to face a stage test

A few days ago we interviewed the Andalusian triathlete Yessica Pérez (winner of the Doñana Challenge) and we announced that he was signing for the Bizkaia-Durango cycling team where he also runs Mavi Garcia (Champion of Spain of Duatlon LD, bronze in the Duathlon World Championship y Champion of Spain of cycling in Route)

The KZM Summer Series was held in South Africa from 16 to 20 in November and Mavi Garcia and Yessica Bueno competed there with their team, Bizkaia-Durango. We have talked with them to tell us about the preparation and competition, and also to ask them for some advice on how to combine their duathlon and running training sessions in the case of Mavi and the triathlon in the case of Yessica.

In my opinion to make a lap by stages you have to have a background made prior to the competition and a work accumulation training to be able to support the effort of so many days.

For me, I practice duathlon and running, it's something different since my body is used to not relax too much. We work other muscle areas and I think that gives us room to be able to train more time or to do more training sessions. So I think it's beneficial although a lot of people believe otherwise.

On the other hand once the races arrive, you have to take great care of all the details to recover the maximum possible and give the best of you in each race. The first and very important, is to take the necessary nutrients within thirty minutes after the effort either with a shake or with food.

Then you have to try to be calm and relaxed and if you can do a massage, much better. Finally I recommend the compression socks recovery to help better flow blood and we can recover as fast as possible.

For the rest, a lot of desire and a strong head!

Just a week ago we returned from South Africa and it is today when I begin to assimilate everything we have lived there. There have been many emotions that have surrounded us these days, laughter, crying, fear, pain, suffering, satisfaction. All these emotions get better with good mates like Mavi, they help you, take care and pamper you as if it were your family.

The preparation prior to the race is many hours of training, in which you can combine the three disciplines of the Triathlon, using the bicycle to catch the bottom, which is what in the end helps you get up the next day, put on your helmet and get out of new to giving everything, the race on foot or series to reach the point that you lack on the bicycle and swimming as a way of relaxation on the days of "active rest".

Tips:

- Rest well, eat carbohydrates the night before the race and have a good breakfast (oatmeal, cereals, milk, fruit, coffee) 3 h before.

- In the race hydration and nutrition at all times is essential.

- The 30min after finishing the race are key, at the time of recovering for the next day we must drink and eat even if the body does not ask for it.

- A good massage in the upward direction, and keeping the legs up will help eliminate toxins from the legs
