Main modifications to the 2017 Triathlon Competition Regulations

After the publication of the 2017 Competition Regulations, we present the most relevant modifications for this season

Regulation

Article 2.6: It is clarified who has power in the modification of the results.

Article 2.8: Everything related to uniformity; taking the strict part to the general regulations of the Elite Spain Championships, being totally flexible in the rest of the competitions.

Athletes must comply with the following Uniformity requirements:

  • Athletes must wear the uniform throughout the competition
  • The uniform should cover the torso completely in the front. The back can be uncovered from the waist up.
  • Uniforms with sleeves that extend from the shoulder, but not cover the elbow, are allowed, except in elite triathlon competitions in Olympic distance, sprint and supersprint. The Technical Delegate, in agreement with the Medical Director, may authorize or require that they be covered in accordance with weather conditions.
  • Neoprene suits, when authorized, can cover the arms, but not the hands. Paratriathletes of the PTHC class may wear uniforms with sleeves that extend from the shoulder but do not cover the elbow.
  • It is not allowed to cover the legs below the knees during the swim segment when the use of the neoprene suit is not allowed.
  • One-piece uniforms are advisable. The athlete must have the torso covered throughout the competition.
  • The uniform must be correctly placed on the shoulders throughout the competition.
  • The jackets for the rain or the cold, in the case that its use is authorized, must have the same design as the competition uniform, or a color that allows the identification of the dorsal and uniform.
  •  Advertising is allowed in the clothing of the athlete as long as it does not interfere in the tasks of identification or control of the officers

Sanctions

3.2-3.6 Articles: Sanctions: reduced to warning, sanction for time and disqualification; and it is clarified and specific, how and where each sanction must be fulfilled.

There are two types of infractions that are penalized with time penalty:

Infractions for 'drafting'

The penalties for time will vary depending on the type of infraction: 1. Infractions for 'drafting':

  • 5 minutes in medium and long distance competitions.

  • 1 minute in sprint and lower distance competitions.

Other infractions:

  • 1 minute in medium and long distance competitions.
  • 15 seconds in standard distance competitions.
  • 10 seconds in distance and sprint distance competitions

Swimming

Article 4.2: The table of water temperatures.

The specified temperatures are not always the water temperatures used in the final decision. If the water temperature is lower than 22ºC and the external temperature is lower than 15ºC, the adjusted value is to decrease the measured water temperature according to the following table:

Cycling

Article 5: The entire chapter of specifications of bicycles.

Article 5.2: The use of mobile devices, always with motives of use for the competition, like GPS, etc .; already contradicts in the chapter of sanctions that any manipulation that distracts the athlete will suppose a disqualification.

Article 5.2: The following are enabled disc brakes in competitions in which you can not go to a wheel, apart from mountain bikes.

Transitions

Article 7.1: Transition: Clarifies the use of bags in transitions of Media and Long Distance competitions. 

In competitions that there is a bag system To deposit the equipment, it must be deposited in the bags provided for this purpose, with the exception of the cycling shoes, which, if not deposited in the bag, must remain on the pedals of the bicycle.

 

The competition regulations will be applicable in triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon, cros duathlon, cros triathlon, aquathlon and quadriathlon that are considered official federated competitions at the state level or in those other competitions in which the organizing entity determines expressly its application in the test.
