Can we predict our brands?

Our collaborator in sports medicine OHP Medical Center he tells us how through a stress test it is possible to predict the marks that we will have in a race.

The athlete of resistance, triathlon, Cycling, marathon... cares about the rhythms and therefore to improve their brands. So much so, that we can consult different training plans according to the final possible brand.

But there are times, that even following the guidelines and routines the result differs from expected. Sometimes for a bad day, for the famous "nerves", or simply for the lack of experience in these distances.

These situations can surprise us all at some time, what we should not allow is that our career rhythms are not optimal for our body. And these rhythms can we control them? ...

We currently have multiple tests that indicate the most appropriate rhythms to determine the speed in the race, one of them, probably the most personal is to measure by means of expired gas analysis in an effort test the metabolic changes that occur in a race of resistance or intensity , to understand us, one of more than 90 minutes or less than 30 minutes.

The metabolic changes of aerobic threshold they allow the energetic substrates, lipids and glycogen with glucose to be available with a low production of lactic acid, so that during a prolonged period they are oxidized producing enough energy to maintain the proper race rhythm.

That is, with the data of Heart Rate and minutes / Km determined in the aerobic threshold we can know the rhythm in endurance races. With the anaerobic threshold something similar happens but at high intensities, the high production of lactic acid conditions the rhythm for time, since the use of oxygen at these levels together with the large production of CO2 limits the yield.

Therefore it is interesting to know the Aerobic and anaerobic thresholds since it allows us to determine our speeds and schedule both our workouts and the race itself.

The final mark of a competition we can predict with reliability with a lactate test, made a few days before the competition. We will know how the training sessions have been carried out and the optimal pace for the specific competition distance will be determined.
