Cycling evaluation tests

 

We tell you a simple test to measure the performance on the bicycle

In this article our collaborator Personal Runnning speaks to us about the most common method used to measure performance on the two wheels of our triathletes, and in turn some of the most used worldwide nowadays both for measure the evolution of triathletes in the cycling segment  as if to establish your training zones and rhythms in the same.

In both cases, the maximum effort and maximum concentration on the part of the athlete, that is, he has to do it faster, maintained and homogeneous possible within its capabilities so that the data is reliable. It is about identifying that range of work that is understood as FTP, which is none other than the Anaerobic Threshold.

A good time to measure these tests is usually in Preseason and before the competitive period, to be able to compare data, see how the athlete has improved during his preparation and in what form the competition faces.

Test evaluation for cycling

The test consists of trying to keep the athlete in that state of maximum effort maintained during a minimum interval of 15-20 '. For this, the ideal scenarios to do it could be:

  • Mountain pass that had that minimum duration and not too much difference in level (3-4% max)
  • Velodrome
  • Flat circuit without traffic or dangerous curves

All of them, choosing a day in which the meteorological circumstances will not affect the results of it.

Through this test, we can apply the training zones to the following parameters, with the corresponding measurement systems:

  • Heart Rate (fc)
  • Power (w)
  • Speed ​​(km / h)

After carrying out this test, obtaining the average of the three previous parameters and starting from that FTP as 100%, we could apply the data obtained using the following table to determine the training zones of our athlete:
