Eneko Plains for his 11º Ironman from Hawaii

Eneko disputes this year its 11º world of Ironman, where it has been 5 times top 7. It emphasizes above all his historical 2ª position in the year 2008.

Hello Eneko, to start the interview, could you tell us how was your way to Kona?

After the seventh place last year in Kona I had the classification quite well on track. I went to the Ironman of Texas where I finished the race but without doing a good competition for problems in the marathon, with finishing in Texas and the points I had added to the victory in the 70.3 in Lanzarote and fifth place in the Oceanside 70.3 I had the insured classification.

Even so I competed in the Ironman in Frankfurt to try to find a solution to the problems I had in Texas, Frankfurt was not a good race either, but better than Texas, I finished third and it has been my best Ironman of this 2016 at the moment.

How and have you trained the weeks before Hawaii? Have you done any special preparation?

For acclimatization we have been training for 26 days at Club Santa Rosa in Lanzarote. Lanzarote is an excellent place to train for Kona since at this time it is quite hot to begin the acclimatization, the wind and the orography of the island adapt very well to the conditions that I will find in Kona in October.

The last 20 days before flying to Kona I spent at home in Vitoria-Gasteiz where the conditions for training are perfect except that the weather is already starting to take on autumnal tints and I miss the heat. And in Kona I will be the 12 days before the competition.

Any advice for acclimatization to the Island?

If you arrive in time to do some training at noon in the hours where the heat is strongest. If you arrive with little time better to avoid these trainings, the work of acclimatization would have to come done already from home.

Thank you very much and we hope that everything goes great in Kona

Greetings and thanks to you
