Some facts about the test
In total, a record number of 42 countries have achieved places for the Rio 2016 triathlon competitions, this being the highest figure in the Olympic Games. In London, 2012 39 countries obtained places, 37 were represented in Beijing 2008, 33 in Athens and 34 in Sydney.
In the men's competition, eight countries ranked the maximum number of representatives in the men's category: Australia, France, Great Britain, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, Spain and the United States.
The exit numbers are drawn at random and assigned in groups to the National Olympic Committees, determining the place where the athletes place their bicycles in the transition area. However, the athletes choose their position at the start according to the Olympic ranking of each one. This is done at the information meeting in Rio. The place chosen by the first ten athletes is not disclosed until the remaining 55 athletes have not chosen their position.
The numbers 30-39 have always given athletes luck since in the end they have always been on the podium. So far, five gold medals have gone to athletes with numbers between 30 and 39: Emma Snowsill (34), Brigitte McMahon (35), Kate Allen (39), Jan Frodeno (32) and Alistair Brownlee (30)
However, the most successful start number seems to be 34, led by Emma Snowsill (gold in Beijing), Magali di Marco Messmer (Bronze in Sydney) and Susan Williams (Bronze in Athens). The 27 also has its own; Bevan Docherty wore it when she won silver in Athens and bronze in Beijing.
Although the decision of the IOC for the participation of the Russian triathletes is still pending, the starting numbers for the confirmed athletes will not be modified. Any athlete who enters the starting list due to the withdrawal of another athlete will receive the number of the athlete who withdrew.
