The siesta time: The importance of being called Ernesto by Felipe Gutiérrez

A few years ago I was able to see a play entitled "The importance of being called Ernesto", Whose original title in English is" The importance of Being Earnest "and which Oscar Wilde wrote in 1895 and which talks about the customs and seriousness of society. The truth is that a friend named Ernesto and who I have for many years asked me about the title I put a few days ago after the Spanish Championship of Duathlon of Age Groups and that I titled "The 93 Championship medals".

Tells me: "dude you get in every puddle" And maybe he's right, but a championship, a medal award ceremony, an excessive titulitis that I do not like and that I've never liked and that I think we should change.

Surely someone will tell me "Well, you could have changed it before, that you were eleven years as director of competitions for the federation". I would have said the same and the truth that they are very right, although at some point I tried, I could not or I did not know how to raise it with the Board of Directors.

Now looking at it from the outside and coldly yes I think there are things that have to change.

The truth is that many times I think that Age groups it is these "groups of people" who pay a registration fee and from then on everything is going on, without a doubt "copy and paste" from the ETU / ITU and we have been with it for years. I also think about swimming masters and other sports, what happens that in ours you have to be careful with the number of people that get in, in the pool they go from eight to eight and it's easier. The award as unbearable.

Some people have called me and I have commented things and especially following the owner of the 93 medals and is that many people who on Monday you can see on facebook posing with his medal and showing his title of champion. And what is worse than some people think they are the best in Spain. And I'm sorry but the real titles are elite and as a consequence in the championship the cadets, juniors and paralympics.

And the 23 sub? Well, I think that with the volume of participants should run their career and who wants to run in the elite must give up their category. Surely you will tell me that it is difficult and in Soria if we could see a very clear case of a girl who could have been proclaimed champion of Spain Junior, and resigned to run with her age and won in Elite. Power can Claudia Luna did so.

That is why I believe that Championships in Spain should be held in those categories and not in Age Groups, there it could be denominated of another form and all we will have to look for a name and to propose it to the Sport Committee of the Fetri. I am going to make a proposal, although if I do it then almost certainly it will not come out, but if someone thinks the same way we will make other proposals that were worth to us for years and now no longer.

 

 

What if "age groups" without Champions award we call it for example  "Miting Duathlon National"Or"Duathlon National Open", Or" Trophy and / or Duathlon National City of Soria "in this case ... or as it occurs to us to pose it ...?

Well, it could be an interesting idea to discuss and try ...

Oh and without so much age group, let's simplify a bit, we should not forget the well-known 1 Veterans, 2 Veterans, etc. ..., less medals or trophies, tighter prize and another air.

Oh, and I do not want to be told that we have to follow the ITU criteria. Of course, this column that my friend Ernesto provoked and that because of him I was not able to take a nap this afternoon with these things is not against Fetri, nor about the organization of Soria, that worked a lot, it only goes to what we have what think about the future and maybe give it a new change, maybe not to continue with what was before, that time passes and we have to innovate and that what I used to like, now I do not like it, maybe we all change in a matter of tastes, they also change me. Of circuits, schedules, exits, delays, messes of entrance and exit, I do not speak, that is a technical question that the technicians must solve and solve them.

There is a subject that crushes my head and it is about European Championship to be held in Alcobendas. It is not against Alcobendas that it is clear, they quite do putting "a pasture" to make the event, but there are people who complain not only about the cost of registration, which is less for being Spanish, but because they are forced to run with the monkey of Spain of the last sponsor of the Fetri, when many people already have the monkey of Spain of the previous sponsors. This has been going around for years.

Reading the FETRI regulations, I am not sure that it has to be the current Austral, I think that the Mosconi one could be worth it and even some previous one with the Spanish design of other brands. I don't know for sure, but some people have told me about it and it seems that this is what they have been answered from Fetri.
