The hour of the siesta by Felipe Gutiérrez: NOT ALL SUM

I am tired of hearing from some athletes and what is worse on the part of some coaches to say that "everything adds up", when referring to training.

Training is something very serious to say that everything that is done adds up and is not true, sometimes, I hope that the least is not that it sums is that it subtracts a lot.

I think that athletes should have more respect to the training that their coach proposes, to respect the guidelines set, the recoveries, the breaks and everything that has a good final result. This adds up, without a doubt.

Unfortunately many athletes skip everything and in order to do something, they dare to do anything. With tests without much sense when they feel like it, the trails become fashionable and they sign up just to do something, and on multiple occasions they neglect training and what is worse, they also neglect the breaks that also add up, although some do not. look like this.

It is not about doing, it is about doing it under a progression and some approaches in order to achieve some objectives, and even if we go a little bit further it is about not getting an injury because of the irresponsibility that "everything adds up "

Coaches must be firm against this phrase and its consequences.

When this time of Christmas arrives, the number of races on foot multiply and some register to "almost" all those that exist in their city and in the bordering cities. It is run by Santa Claus, by the Companies, by the children, by the Three Wise Men, with the woman or the husband, (or the girlfriend or boyfriend) who is also excited to run one, by San Silvestre, and even some make two and three races over the weekend. No doubt this is not included in any training approach, although it is curious to see the number of races that some do from the 1 of December to the 6 of January, without a doubt the quality of the training is inversely proportional to the number of races a triathlete run.

If you do 10 careers (to put something), you have undoubtedly "thrown" a few sessions of your work plan in the trash, if you run one or two until they can possibly be included in your work plan.

That if some are still convinced that this is more interesting, than a planned workouts, perhaps more boring than running dressed as Santa Claus or with a "matasuegras" in the mouth.

Not everything adds up, that if everything is fun and especially when you have to do one or two Christmas meals with the colleagues of the "curro" and also take the opportunity to lose a few training sessions.

So everything is very complicated if also to recover from the races, the meals, the "matasuegras" and polvorones because we have to lie on the sofa and recover, yes with a glass of cider the Piper and sleeping a little the monkey of so much running for running and eating for lunch without rhyme or reason.

As a coach I love that these "crazy" dates go by soon and that the athletes focus a bit more if they can, because some people think that Carnival, Holy Week and ... will soon arrive.

Caution I must not generalize with this because there are also athletes who train and well at this time, that lots of races more or less popular do not care unless your coach tells you, they train every day and only "half stop" "The key days and that if marked in your approach to training. Thanks to these athletes we realize that this adds up and that we like coaches.

My nap Wednesday with all these thoughts piled in my head makes it can not be intense and not being able to keep an eye on the only thing I have achieved is to accumulate a little more sleep, that does add up.

If you look very reflective and think that it is for you, you can forget this column and think that although it is based on real events, any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental.
