The organizers have also announced the main features of the route and the registration schedule. Priority registration will open on September 22, 2026 , and general registration will be available from September 24.

Belgium's first full IRONMAN will be on September 5, 2027

Knokke-Heist will host the first full-distance IRONMAN franchise event held in Belgium on Sunday, September 5, 2027 .

The new IRONMAN Knokke-Heist, Belgium will feature the usual distances of the format: 3,8 kilometers of swimming, 180 kilometers of cycling and 42,2 kilometers of running.

The arrival of the full event represents a new step for an event that began in 2023 and that until now had combined the 5150 and IRONMAN 70.3 races.

This will be the route of IRONMAN Belgium 2027

The race will begin with a 3,8-kilometer swim in Sluis , a town located on the other side of the border, in the Dutch province of Zeeland.

Next, the participants will tackle a 180-kilometer cycling route through the Zwin region , passing through polder areas, small towns and surrounding roads before returning to Knokke-Heist.

The final segment will be a 42,2-kilometer marathon in Knokke-Heist , with part of the route running alongside the seafront and the North Sea coast. The finish line will be located on the Evenementenstrand in Duinbergen.

When do registrations open for IRONMAN Belgium 2027?

Registration will open just a few weeks after the new event is officially confirmed.

Priority registration is scheduled for September 22, 2026 , while general registration will open on Thursday, September 24.

Residents of Knokke-Heist have also had a specific prior system that reserves up to 150 places for athletes registered in the municipality.

Information and the registration process will be available through the official IRONMAN Knokke-Heist website.

More than 67.000 visitors and participants in the 2026 edition

The move to the full distance comes after the growth recorded by the event during its first seasons.

According to data published by the Knokke-Heist City Council, 67.208 visitors and participants were counted during the weekend of September 5 and 6, 2026 , approximately 50% more than during a comparable weekend.

Since IRONMAN arrived in Knokke-Heist in 2023, more than 11.500 athletes have participated in the various events held in the town.

The 2026 edition had already shown the existing demand: the IRONMAN 70.3 sold out its more than 2.800 places in 14 days , while the 5150 completed its registrations in just 24 hours.

Triathlon News has also followed the sporting evolution of the event, as in the results of the IRONMAN 70.3 Knokke-Heist 2025.

The 70.3 and the 5150 will not be contested in 2027

Organizing the first full IRONMAN requires a change to the usual schedule. The 5150 and IRONMAN 70.3 Knokke-Heist will not be held in 2027 , with resources being concentrated on the long-distance race.

The City Council has presented this decision as a temporary measure and maintains its intention to continue developing triathlon events over shorter distances in the future.

For Belgium, the arrival of the Knokke-Heist IRONMAN also represents a new step in the growth of the franchise in the country, which until now had never hosted a full-distance IRONMAN event.
