The World Championship HOMBRE DE HIERRO The 2025 men's tournament left mixed emotions for the Spanish delegation.
Jordi Montraveta had a solid World Championship debut with a 22nd-place finish, while Antonio Benito, one of the country's top contenders, was forced to retire from the marathon.
Jordi Montraveta, 22nd in the world in his debut
The Catalan arrived with confidence after a remarkable summer: third place in the legendary Embrunman, second in Lanzarote, and champion in Peñíscola. In Nice, he stuck to his race plan. He emerged from the water in 3:2, more than six minutes off the lead, and started the bike outside the top 51.
His comeback was gradual: with the 17th fastest cycling split (4:45:05), he reached T2 in 25th place. In the marathon, with a time of 2:43, he finished 22nd in the world.

Antonio Benito, “was completely empty”
The La Mancha native, 20th last year in Kona, emerged from the water with the favorites (45:18) and maintained a good feeling at the start of the bike. He reached the second transition in the top 15 with a time of 4:44:07, but everything went wrong on the run.
“I was completely empty,” he explained later on Instagram. After the half marathon, he opted to drop out so as not to jeopardize the rest of the season. “Retiring is never an option, but it was the most sensible thing to do,” he confessed.

The historic Norwegian treble
Beyond the Spanish performance, the day was marked by a historic result: Casper Stornes won his first IRONMAN World Championship with a marathon of 2h29, followed by his compatriots Gustav Iden and Kristian Blummenfelt.
An all-Norwegian podium that confirms the Scandinavian country's dominance in the long distance.
