Stornes, the "dark horse" who surprised everyone

Although the attention was on Blummenfelt e IdenWas Casper Stornes who took the glory.

The 28-year-old, who had made his long distance debut with a podium finish in Frankfurt, completed an almost perfect race in Nice: he stayed in the leading group on the bike and finished with a marathon of 2:29:22, the fastest in history in an IRONMAN World Championship.

With this victory he joins the list of Norwegian world champions: Blummenfelt (St. George 2021) and Iden (Kona 2022).

Iden's Return and Blummenfelt's Claw

The second place of Gustav Iden It almost tastes like gold. After several seasons marked by injuries and ups and downs, the 2022 Kona champion shined again with a solid career that once again places him among the world's elite.

For its part, Kristian Blummenfelt He showed the character that led him to become an Olympic and world champion: he attacked in the marathon, fought until the end, and only cramps prevented him from reaching the top. His bronze medal is yet another podium finish that enhances a unique record.

An unrepeatable generation

What we saw in Nice is no coincidence. The trio trains using the same method, shares extremely tough sessions in Bergen, and has been pushing together for years from close range.

They already surprised everyone with a triple win at the Bermuda World Series in 2018. Seven years later, they've done it again, but this time on the toughest stage in triathlon: the IRONMAN World Championships.

This treble confirms that Norway not only has champions, but a sports structure capable of mastering both short and long distance.

Reactions and legacy

The spectators on the Promenade des Anglais witnessed a unique day. The image of the three Norwegians embracing at the finish line is already iconic in modern triathlon. For many, this generation is comparable to the great dominators in the history of the sport, and their legacy will continue to grow with their eyes on Kona 2026.

What comes

The Nice World Cup bids farewell to Norway as a host country with this golden touch. The next event will be in Hawaii 2026, where we will see if Nordic hegemony continues on the original IRONMAN stage.
