IRONMAN Portugal 2025: Less than two months away from one of the biggest events of the year
The Portuguese event will be held on October 18 in Cascais, with a Full and 70.3 format.
On October 18, Cascais will once again become the epicenter of European triathlon with the celebration of the IRONMAN Portugal 2025, a test that gains more followers every year and that in this edition once again combines the distances Full Ironman y 70.3 The same day.
With both races sold out, we're sure to experience another spectacular day on the Portuguese coast.
Why Cascais? Mild climate and varied circuit
With eight weeks to go until the big event, many triathletes are fine-tuning their final loads before beginning tapering. And it's no coincidence that Cascais has become one of the favorite races for those looking to close out the season on a high note.
The mild October climate, easy access from Spain, and the city's small but lively character—with beaches, culture, and good food—make this event more than just a competition.
A demanding but affordable route
Those who have already experienced it know that IRONMAN Portugal has a circuit with its own character.
The swim takes place in protected waters within the bay, with a rolling start. The cycling segment alternates flat stretches along the coast with gentle climbs toward Sintra, accumulating approximately 1.400 meters of elevation gain. And to top it all off, there's an urban marathon with several laps along the seafront, with plenty of cheering spectators.
For those who compete in the 70.3, the sensations are similar: swimming and running in the same environment and a 90 km cycling circuit with a smoother profile.
More than a race: a full-fledged experience
IRONMAN Portugal isn't just about crossing a finish line. It's about sharing the journey with other triathletes, discovering a different destination, and feeling like all the hard work leading up to it has been worth it.
Cascais offers an ideal setting to extend the experience for a few more days: beaches, walks, Atlantic cuisine and nearby excursions such as Sintra, Lisbon o Cabo da Roca.
A growing event
Since the first edition, the event has steadily grown in participation and recognition. In 2024, the event was sold out weeks before the event, and it has been repeated in 2025.
The profiles of the participants are also diverse: professionals seeking ranking points, veterans returning to a circuit they know well, and many newcomers choosing Cascais as their first Ironman for its balance of difficulty and atmosphere.
Final stretch: how to prepare for what's left?
We're entering the decisive weeks. Most training plans will now be in their most demanding phase, with high volumes on the bike, race simulations, and maximum attention to nutrition. The reduction in training load will begin in the second half of September.
For those traveling from abroad, it's time to finalize your flights, accommodations, and transportation, as well as review details such as equipment, licenses, and logistics for the day of the test.
