Lanzarote presents the 34th edition of the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote

El Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote 2026 will celebrate its 34th edition on Saturday, May 23rd in Puerto del Carmen, with more than 1.400 triathletes and the new Champions Walk as one of the new features.

Puerto del Carmen hosted the official presentation of Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote 2026, one of the longest distance races with the longest history on the international calendar and the oldest in Europe within the IRONMAN circuit.

The race will once again be held over the full distance: 3,8 kilometers of swimming, 180,2 kilometers of cycling, and 42,2 kilometers of runningThe race will start at Playa Grande and will maintain its international character, with an expected participation of more than 1.400 triathletes.

An edition that pays tribute to the history of the race

The presentation ceremony was attended by Oswaldo Betancort, president of the Lanzarote Island Council; José Juan Cruz, mayor of Tías; Juan Monzón, Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports of the Island Council; and Fabio Cabrera, director of the La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote Club.

One of the highlights was the unveiling of commemorative plaques dedicated to all the winners of the race. This recognition is part of the new Champions' Walk, located next to the statue of Kenneth Gasque, a key figure in the birth and consolidation of IRONMAN Lanzarote.

The president of the Island Council, Oswaldo Betancort, recalled during the event the island's connection to the race: "IRONMAN is part of our history." A statement that summarizes the sporting, social, and touristic impact the event has had on Lanzarote for more than three decades.

IRONMAN Lanzarote maintains its international standing

El Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote It is a long-distance triathlon event organized by Club La Santa and recognized for the difficulty of its route, especially the cycling segment through the volcanic landscape of the island.

The 2026 edition will once again start and finish in Puerto del Carmen, with a route that combines swimming in Playa Grande, cycling through different points of Lanzarote and a final marathon along the coast.

The event also maintains its importance within the international calendar because it offers qualifying places for the IRONMAN World Championship 2026 in Kailua-Kona, a key element for many age-group triathletes looking to compete in Hawaii.

A test linked to Lanzarote

The race is organized by Club Santa, with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Lanzarote Island Council, Promotur Turismo de Canarias, the Tías City Council and Lanzarote Sports Destination.

The work of the Civil Guard, local police, sponsors and volunteers will also be key, a fundamental group to sustain an event that mobilizes the entire island during the week of the event.

With the official presentation now complete, Lanzarote is entering the final stretch towards a new edition of its most iconic IRONMAN. On May 23, Puerto del Carmen will once again be the center of an event that combines sport, tourism, and a history deeply intertwined with the island's sporting identity.
