Disputed in the Spanish dawn of this Monday 18 of August, the Spanish obtained the Olympic diploma in its debut, after carrying out an outstanding action.

Once again, humidity and rain accompanied the 32 participants from all five continents, with Lake Xuanwu as the epicenter of the competition. Completed the 750 m of swimming, the Israeli Omri Bahat and the Hungarian Bence Lehmann led the contest, with the Spaniard Alberto González coming out in tenth position to 12 seconds of the leaders.

Already in the cycling segment, a group of 17 triathletes formed by the Spanish González, Lehmann, Bahat, Giulio Soldati, Romain Loop, Emil Hansen, Peer Sonksen, Daniel Hoy, Charles Paquet, Ben Dijkstra, Seth Rider, Eduardo Londono Naranjo, Javier Martin, Miguel Cassiano, Diego Lopez Acosta, Philip Horwarth and Michael Lam, remained in the lead during the four laps of this sector of 20 km. Behind, a small chasing group led by the Australian Jack van Stekelenburg tried to reduce distances.

The rain accompanied the triathletes from the beginning of the swim, making difficult especially the cycling sector in which some mishaps were experienced by a circuit already very technical in itself, in which today several triathletes suffered various accidents. Among them the Mexican Lopez Acosta, the Austrian Horwarth or the triathlete of Hong Kong Lam -all of them framed in the head group-.

Thus, a total of 14 triathletes arrived together in the second transition, to then face the remaining 5 km of the race on foot. After them, the pursuer group arrived at the transition zone with a disadvantage of 57 seconds.

Accompanied one of the two laps of the race on foot, the Danish Hansen commanded the race, along with the British Dijkstra, the New Zealander Hoy and the German Sonksen. The four had escaped in the early stages of this last stage and were being pursued by a second group in which the young Spaniard marched.

While New Zealander Daniel Hoy, despite concluding at the same time, had to settle for an outstanding silver medal; while the Danish Emil Hansen hung the bronze medal.

For his part, Alberto González made a great performance, performing at a very good level throughout the entire competition. After completing the swim section in a good position, the Spaniard established himself in the front group in the cyclist segment, leaving the T2 well between the first and after a great race on foot, he achieved a splendid sixth place; that makes him deserving of a deserved Olympic diploma.
