5 unprecedented mountain passes in competition of great beauty

In the following article we present 5 ports unpublished in competition, which have never been uploaded in the great cyclists.

In addition, all of them have a high hardness, with a coefficient of APM (1). Cycling is a hundred-year-old sport with a lot of mythical climbs in competitions, but even so we can discover new giants that have nothing to envy to "the classics" neither in hardness nor in beauty.

Alto de Casielles (Asturias)

Also known as "Alpe d'Huez Asturian" or "Petit Alpe d'Huez" for its continuous horseshoe curves. It has a distance of 3,85km to save an unevenness of 467m so the average slope is of ¡12,1% !!!

The first kilometer is "the softest" at 9,9% but with some 21% ramp. After passing the intersection of Viboli the road climbs with 2'83km to 13% and the horseshoe turns begin, specifically 23 (2 more than the mythical Alpe d'Huez), which makes the climb spectacular. At the top is the small village of Casielles.

Alto de San Cristobal (Teruel)

The port begins with the crossing of the TE8042 and A1702 roads in the factory site, next to the Pitarque river. The summit is almost 1500m altitude, the port consists of 8,9km to 6,9% and can be divided into three parts.

The first one consists of practically flat 2km, later there is 3kms at 5,5% on average and the climb ends with 4km very hard at an average higher than 10%.

Bestué (Huesca)

In the Pyrenees of Huesca, we can find many unprecedented ascents. In this case we have focused on the Bestué stop on its Escalona side, with 12km at 5,3% on average.

Despite the fact that the middle slope looks like a stretched port, it hides authentic encerronas with the 25% wall that we can see in the photograph.

Cirque de Tromouse and Gavarnie-Boucharo

Possibly the two most beautiful climbs in the Pyrenees. They are in France, but we wanted to highlight these highs in this article to be some ascents that are very close to Spain, they are of great beauty ... and hardness. The problem that the two posts have is that they can not be raised in the Tour (or large laps) as they are located in Natural Parks (Gavarnie) and environmentally is not possible.

The Cirque de Tromouse is a very long port, 27,2 km to 5,2% that saves a difference of almost 1500m. Its summit amounts to 2092m. The last 7km are spectacular with more than 20 horseshoe curves.

On the other hand Gavarine-Boucharo is still longer and harder. It consists of 31km at 5,2%, saves almost 1600 and its summit is at 2270m of altitude.

(1) As we explained in the article of the "5 toughest ports in Spain" The hardness coefficient of a port is calculated according to the length and medium slope, created by the web www.altimetrias.net
