The International Cycling Union has announced that the veteran Spanish cyclist tested positive during an out of competition control last August 9.

The International Cycling Union announced on Thursday that the Spanish cyclist Samuel Sánchez Would have given positive by GHRP-2, classified by the institution as'peptide hormones,The growth factor or related mimetics', in a control carried out out of competition on August 9.

Samuel Sánchez was included in the BMC list of 9 cyclists for the Tour of Spain but will not start the Spanish round as he is provisionally suspended.

Sanchez tested positive for a control performed by the Anti-Doping Cycling Foundation (CADF for its acronym in English), an independent body of the UCI. The Asturian cyclist could ask for the counter analysis of the sample, but while it is known the result of the same will not be able to participate in any competition.

Shortly after the news broke, the team BMC announced in a statement the provisional suspension of the corridor on the team and that, until the results of the counter-analysis are known, they will not take any further action at this time. 

Belgian cyclist Löic Vliegen will replace Samuel Sánchez on the BMC's list of nine riders for the Vuelta a España.

Samuel Sánchez has been one of the most outstanding Spanish cyclists of recent decades.

His main achievements in his professional career include the gold medal in the road event of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, five stages of the Tour of Spain and eight stages of the Tour of the Basque Country, where he won the general in 2012 .

Sanchez also has a second place in the general ranking of the Tour de France 2010 in his palmarés after the disqualification of Alberto Contador and Denis Menchov, first and third respectively.
