Saturday begins the 4 Stage MTB Race Lanzarote

A test with a huge trajectory behind him that in this 2017 writes a golden page in its history as part of the UC Mountain Bike calendar

Lanzarote, and especially the Club Santa, are ready to welcome the hundreds of bikers who will flood the trails of this volcanic island during 4 intense days of MTB. It is a new edition of the 4 Stage Mountain Bike Race Lanzarote.

A test with an enormous trajectory behind his back that in this 2017 writes a golden page in its history. It debuts on the UCI mountain bike calendar as a S2 test.

The good weather, the spectacular routes, the large facilities of Club La Santa and the volcanic terrain will once again be the center of the international MTB from 4 to 7 in February.

The race remains true to its format of 4 days. The action opens on Saturday with a stage of 39km which is expected very fast. With 600 altitude meters, the bikers must face the possible wind that usually blows in this area. The sand will also be an element to consider in these first kilometers of the race.

The next day the 4 Stage delves into an iconic area, both the competition and the island of Lanzarote itself. The trails of the Timanfaya will be witnesses of exception of the race. A day of 52km with 800 meters of unevenness and some remarkable ascension sections. Bikers will have the opportunity to try some fun trails on their way back to Club La Santa, departure and arrival of the stage.

The third day will be an important day. 21km fight against the clock in a long time trial to the Ermita de las Nieves. Located on an impressive cliff facing the sea, almost 600 meters high, it is a privileged spot to see the whole island. Before reaching it, the participants will have to overcome the 600 meters of ascent from the beach of Famara. A key day for the general classification.

In this configuration of ascending hardness day by day, the last stage will be the climax. 87 demanding kilometers traveling all over the south of Lanzarote. 1.500 meters of positive slope with a hard and long climb in the middle of the race that promises to be the judge of the race. A varied day where the route combines tracks, asphalt, sand, trails, trialeras, stones and sand. The most complete day of the race. And the hardest.

The highest level in its history

The 4 Stage Mountain Bike Race Lanzarote will have the highest level of its history in this 2017. The UCI points have attracted great bikers of international stature. The participation is headed by Sergio Mantecón, who knows what it is to win here and who comes in a great state of form. But it will not be easy. Søren Nissen is also a winner of this race and he has prepared it with care with several stays at Club La Santa, one of them as ambassador of the MTB Campus that is organized each year as a warm-up for the 4 Stage.

Even with that, the list of candidates for victory is wide. The Belgian Sebastien Carabin made a spectacular final of the 2016 season, the Portuguese David Rosa was an Olympian in Rio de Janeiro, the Russian Anton Sintsov is a runner able to win in any event of this style, the Portuguese also Luis Leao Pinto has shone in the race in the past and the Austrian Karl Markt is another perfect biker pointer knowledgeable of the competition. That to name just some of the most outstanding athletes. At the national level, apart from Mantecón, Pedro Romero, Juan Pedro Trujillo and Ismael Ventura stand out.

In females a very open battle is foreseen. Sandra Santanyes and Mayalen Noriega have collaborated with the MTB campus prior to the competition and know exactly what they face in Lanzarote. Susana Alonso and Rocío Martín complete the Spanish opposition. It will be necessary to take into account the foreign runners like Celina Carpinteiro in a clear favorite category without forgetting Jeanette Persson, Norwegian national champion of marathon.

The 2017 promises to be a key edition for the history of the race. All the action from this next Saturday.
