A cyclist dies after hitting a wall when descending L'Angliru

A Galician cyclist, of 29 years, has died after suffering a fall in Cueña les Cabres, in L'Angliru, in Riosa.

According to the newspaper El País, the injured woman, who had a head injury and multiple injuries, was evacuated by the Fire Rescue Group of the Principality of Asturias Emergency Service (SEPA), aboard the medicalized helicopter, to the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA). The first medical evaluation already indicated that his prognosis was serious. The SEPA 112 room reported the event to the Civil Guard.

The young woman had traveled to Asturias to follow the penultimate stage of the Vuelta a España, which took place between Corvera and the mythical Angliru hill, where Alberto Contador won and Chris Froome certified his victory in the general classification. 

According to the same sources, the young he lost control of the bicycle towards the 12: 00 hours when I went down in the area of ​​the Cueña les Cabres, a section of the port located at 1.570 meters of altitude that has slopes of more than 23 percent.

The Emergency Coordination Center received the 12: 10 hours notice that a cyclist had collided with a wall and was on the ground. The Urgent Medical Care Service (SAMU) requested shortly after the intervention of the Rescue Group aboard the medicalized helicopter that moved the woman to the hospital center.

The aircraft left the doctor-rescuer and a firefighter-rescuer about 100 meters from the point where the injured cyclist was. After being attended, a crane operation was carried out, in which 44 meters of cable were deployed, to hoist the doctor and the wound, on a stretcher, to the aircraft.
