Two of the cyclists, one from 54 years and the other from 60, died on the spot and the other two suffered minor injuries. The accident mobilized eleven patrols of the Mossos d'Esquadra, four ambulances of the Emergency Medical System (SEM) and two endowments of the Firemen of the Generalitat.
A group of friends of the deceased, also cyclists, has published a letter in which they expose: "We want to share the roads with the cars, but they are killing us, who can do something, please".
"Political gentlemen, who are the ones who make the laws, or whoever can, avoid this bleeding on the roads, I do not want to have to receive any call from any comrade in which the death of any other comrade is transferred to me”, they lament. They also point to the "fragility" of cyclists and wonder if this type of accident "happens in the hours when they know there are no controls, since they know that the Mossos are taking over on their shifts".
With the death of these two people, 21 are already cyclists who have died in accidents in Spain so far this year, ten since the summer began. According to figures released by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), of the 1.830 people killed on Spanish roads during 2017, a total of 78 were cyclists.
