The 8 of June of 2008 in the Canadian city of Vancouver Javier Gómez Noya achieved its first elite ITU world championship, five years after being world champion sub23

It does just 10 years ago the glorious decade of Spanish triathlon, with the world first Javier Gómez Noya in category elite.

Javier won the gold medal with a 1 time: 49: 48, the silver was for the New Zealander Bevan Docherty with 1: 50: 12 and the bronze for the Swiss Reto Hug with 1: 50: 17. In that race they also competed Ivan Raña (sole Spanish world champion to date), Omar Gonzalez y Ramón Ejeda.

Possibly this is the most significant triumph of Javi, since after achieving the sub23 world he had bad moments when he could not compete as the CSD unfairly withdrew his license due to a "cardiac anomaly". Especially during the years 2004 and 2005 Javi fought to show that he could compete without problems, until 2006 finally regained the license.

During these years Javi he has become the triathlete with most global ITU with five golds, besides being also the one more silver medals has (four) and the one that more total medals has achieved (ten).

Javier Gómez Noya, together with Mario Mola y Fernando Alarza they have managed to Spain is the world's leading male triathlon power of the last decade, among the three 15 30 medals possible, there has always been a Spanish (or two) on the podium since 2007, highlighting three doublets (Noya-Mola in 2014 and 2015 and Mola-Noya in 2017).

Finally, it must be said that Noya is the only triathlete in history capable of winning a world title in both formats, the old one, from 1989 to 2008 the world one was disputed in a test of a day and from 2009 it is under the format WTS with the sum of points in several races.

The next big challenge for Ferrolano is just two days from now, his debut in Ironman in the Australian city of Cairns.
