38 Spanish in the Triathlon European Cup in Gran Canaria

The 2017 ITU season begins next weekend with the European Cup of Gran Canaria that will take place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the presence of 38 Spanish triathletes. 

In the men's competition 21 will be the Spaniards, highlighting Uxío Abuín, Antonio Serrat, Jordi García y Roberto Sánchez as the best classified in the ITU ranking. The main favorites to victory are the Azerbaijani Rostilav Pevtsov, the Belgian Marco Van Der Stel and the Russian Alexander Bryukhankov, in addition to Abuin and Serrat cited above.

 

Many will be the youngsters who will debut with the "TRIarmada" in distance ITU Olympic distance competition like Héctor Arévalo and Arnau Montiel in his first year as sub23, where Andrés Cerdán (who ran last year the EC of Madrid) also debuts. We must also highlight the presence of five Spanish junior triathletes among the participants, Javier Lluch, Alberto Gonzalez, Javier Romo, Jesus del Val and Josep Pages in what will be for all of them their Olympic distance debut in ITU tests. Alberto Casillas will be on the starting list, representing Lithuania.

Male start list

As far as the 17 women's competition is concerned, you will be the national triathletes where the main Spanish tricks according to the ITU ranking are Anna Godoy, Sara Perez, Marta Sanchez, Melina Alonso y Camila Alonso who comes to revalidate your title of Ibero-American champion. British favorites Lucy Hall and Jessica Learmonth as well as Italian Annamaria Mazzetti are the main favorites. Like the men, the European Cup of Gran Canaria marks the debut in Olympic distance in ITU test of some young triathletes like Paula Batlle, Sara Guerrero and Carmen Gómez in its premiere as sub23 and the junior Ana Carvajal, the youngest of all the participants.

Female start list

The race consists of 1500m of swimming, the / as triathletes will give two laps to a circuit of 750m. Later they will have to face 6 laps of 6,6 kilometers in the tough cycling sector to finish with 4 laps of 2,5km in the race on foot.

The women will be the first to compete, at the 10: 45 insular hour (the 11: 45 hours in the Iberian Peninsula) while the men will start their career at the 13: 30 insular hour (14: 30 in the Iberian Peninsula ).

Finally, also mention that Saturday 26 will take place the first qualifier for the Cto. From Spain Olympic distance with 66 triathletes inscribed between men and women.
