The Avalés 2016 Duathlon World Championship begins

The Duathlon World Championships of Avilés will seek its first and most outstanding champions in the first day of competition to be held today on Saturday 4 in June.

Throughout the day the paratriathlon, junior and elite events will be held, in a complete calendar that will last 12 hours of competition. On Sunday the age group and relay events will be held, thus closing two days of competitions with more than 1.400 athletes from more than 30 countries around the world.

To the sporting attractions it is necessary to add the emblematic place where they will be located so much the exit, as the arrival and the transition: the Niemeyer Center, located to the edge of the estuary of Avilés, what will allow an easy follow-up of the test from this zone and the margins of the estuary. Paratriathlon

The first test to be contested will be the one paratriathlon (09: 00 hours) in which the athletes will have to do 5 km of running, 20 km of cycling and 2,5 km of running. In total 40 athletes will participate in a spectacular test, for fans.

Among those registered, Susana Rodríguez, José Vicente Arzo or Franck Paget. Junior. Later it will be the time of the youngest. The women's event will start at 11: 45 hours with 17 registered athletes. Among them, Raquel Mateos, Maude Elaine Le Roux or Madalena Amaral Almeida.

The masculine one (13: 45 hours) has an inscription of 43 duatletas with the Italian Valerio Cattabriga coming out with the number 1. Of the Spanish stand out Alberto González (bronze in the European Championship Duathlon 2015, played in Alcobendas), Javier Lluch or Andrés Cendán, who always respond in big dates. The distances, the same as in paratriathlon (5 - 20 -2,5). Elite and sub 23.

Elite career

In the afternoon will come the moment of the older ones, with great and outstanding athletes in the starting line, in a test that is assumed very fast by the profile of the circuits. The distances will be 10 kilometers of running, 40 kilometers of bicycle and 5 of running.

The women's event will start at 16: 00 hours with the current World Champion Emma Pallant defending the title won in 2015. The Italian Giorgia Priarone (2016 European Champion and 23 Sub X World Champion 2015) and the Danish Susanne Svendsen (third in the long distance European Championship 2016 and 3ª in the Long Distance Duathlon World Championship) appear as two rivals with many options to fight for the title.

The program of the day will end with the male category (19: 00 hours), in a test that is presumed very disputed and interesting, given the entity of the participating duathletes. Emilio Martín defends the title and will have as great adversaries the French Benoit Nicolas (second in the Adelaide 2015 World Championship and second in the European Duathlon Championships this year), Yohan Le Berre (third in the European Duathlon 2016 and 5º in the Duathlon World 2015), the British Philip Wylie (seventh in the 2015 World Championship and 8º in the European 2016) and Richard Murray, a very fast triathlete who will make an incursion in the duathlon in this World Cup. The South African comes out of a shoulder injury and is working very hard on his set-up for the Olympic Games in Rio.
