The next 26 in May will be held the 8ª edition of the Bilbao Triathlon, one of the great triathlons of Spain, a guaranteed success with an organization, participation and hobby of ten.

In 2011, the first edition of the Bilbao Triathlon, a test that has been consolidated in the national calendar, at the level of the great triathlons that were born in the 80s or early 90s. Participation has been increasing, counting last year with more than 1.000 triathletes between both tests (Half and Olimpico), hanging the “complete” sign in the middle distance test 3 months before its celebration.

The start test with the 1.900m of swimming in the estuary of Bilbao in a round trip circuit where the triathletes can see at all times the public that crowds along the estuary to encourage the participants.

It is one of the few triathlons where triathletes have "direct" and visual contact with fans and the general public.

After 90 km of cycling, the triathletes will pedal during 45km in a circuit that will be two lapsThe route is very broken, where the hard climb to Vivero stands out. Finally the half marathon is divided into three laps of 7 km along the estuary, passing through some of the most characteristic areas of the city such as the Guggenheim Museum, the Euskalduna Palace, the Maritime Museum, the Euskalduna Bridge, the University of Deusto, Bilbao City Hall or Puente del Arriaga. As usual in the tests of the Basque Country the public will be one of the great protagonists of the Bilbao Triathlon, since in the three segments a great influx of Basque fans is expected to animate all the participants.

Also for those who prefer it, there is the option to disputeThe Olympic triathlon, with the distances of 1500m of swimming, 40 of cycling and 10 of running on foot, by the same circuits that runs the Half. Remember that in this test if Drafting is allowed.

Finally, it must be mentioned that the test will present a great level of triathlete elites in both distances, because it is one of the triathlons that awards more prizes in cash to his winners and the rest of the top 5 with 18.000 € in prizes for the half. In the case of Olympic, there will be 4.000 € in prizes to be distributed for the 3 top.

At the moment the presence of the current champions is confirmed, Galician Gustavo Rodríguez who will look for his 5º title and the Catalan one Judith Corachán, who will try to take the txapela for the second year in a row.

We have asked Judith and Gustavo for the Bilbao Triathlon, which makes this competition special and because both have had so many seasons repeating participation in this event.

Judith Corachan: "The Bilbao Triathlon is a test marked in red on my calendar and this will be the 4 time I run it. The city has a special charm and for me Bilbao is one of the most beautiful events in Spain, with very entertaining and spectacular circuits, with a great atmosphere and an impressive public, which encourages us in all the segments.

Swimming is the only river, since you can see the public at all times, then the bike to two laps with a demanding and entertaining port and finally the race on foot through the center of Bilbao where fans do not stop cheering us . We must also highlight the good cash prizes. We greatly appreciate this effort of the organization and this is why there is good competition among the elite triathletes. "

Gustavo Rodriguez: "The Bilbao triathlon is always a very special event for me, as it was one of my first big victories and an amulet test in my calendar that can not fail. Then, on the other hand, the circuits are spectacular. A very easy to follow swim for the companions. A bicycle durilla, but beautiful ... very cyclists with that climb to Vivero (and the descent ... no less important! Hehe) and finally the race on foot: fast and going through such iconic sites as the Guggenheim.

Although if there really is something to recommend this triathlon, it is undoubtedly because of the great race environment and the warmth of the public throughout the race. A beautiful experience of living. Ahhhhh! and without forgetting the post-race with the obligatory exit through the tapas area. Without a doubt an ideal plan for a perfect weekend. "
