Change in the cycling sector and Challenge Madrid

The organization has announced that it makes a small variation in the cycling circuit to comply with the 180 km

Once you get off the Puerto de Navacerrada, the race will pass through the municipalities of Alpedrete, Collado Villalba and Galapagar until you reach El Escorial.

The three most important demands of the triathletes in reference to the technical design of Challenge Madrid 2017 were the extension of cutting times in the cycling segment, a new design of Foot race more central and extension of the bicycle circuit to 180 Km.

After receiving many requests from triathletes in the previous edition, the cycling cut-off times in 30 minutes were initially extended.

A design has also been designed new circuit of the marathon which will pass through places such as Calle Mayor, Palacio Real, Senado, Plaza de España, Templo de Debod or Paseo Pintor Rosales, and now we announce a variation in the cycling circuit for adjust the route to 180 Km which implies a extension of cutting times being a total of 10 hours and 9 minutes to complete swimming plus cycling.

The variation is minimal since, when going down the Port of Navacerrada, the race will pass through Alpedrete, Collado Villalba and Galapagar to reach El Escorial, instead of going through the municipalities of Cercedilla, Los Molinos, Guadarrama and San Lorenzo de El Escorial as it was done in the previous edition.

Challenge Madrid will European Long Distance Championship of the ETU, for which the big stars of the European triathlon and of other continents will meet in this new edition that ensures to have a wide national and international media coverage.

Juanan Fernández, director of Challenge Spain, highlights the importance of this variation in the circuit. "For us it was another priority task, we have a unique bicycle in the world, with a unique tour, with exclusive landscapes, with ports envied by any cycling event, but it is true that the circuit stayed at 173 Km.
