Cesc Godoy, third in the Ranking ETU 2016
The Final of the Triathlon European Cup held in Alanya (Turkey) confirmed the splendid season by the Spanish Cesc Godoy.
A year in which the triathlete has shone on the European scene obtaining great performances, which have finally raised him to third position in the 2016 triathlon ranking of the European Triathlon Federation (ETU).
Throughout 2016, Cesc Godoy has garnered notable results such as the silver medal in the Triathlon European Cup of Altafulla (along with the victory in the Mediterranean Championship) obtained last July's 17. Only a week later, it reached the third position in the European Cup played in Rotterdam. To this, a fourth place in the World Cup of Tiszaujvaros at the beginning of July, an 12ª position in the European Cup of Melilla the 10 of April and an 8ª square in the Triathlon European Championship held in Lisbon at the end of May; a competition in which Godoy offered a brilliant performance, excelling in the first places and fighting for the podium until the final stage of the race.
"The truth is that it has been a very good season", Has summarized Cesc Godoy. All this despite the fact that the Barcelona had to face physical problems during the last tests of the season, "The last months were really hard. It's not nice to run injured, I was not one hundred percent and that has affected my workouts and my results".
Even so, Godoy is satisfied with the overall of the season "the first part was almost the best I've ever done: being in the European Championship at a very good level, getting an eighth place in the end I knew little because I was very close to the podium.
Then the months of June and July I did very good races, like the fourth place in the World Cup of Tiszaujvaros and the two podiums in the European Cups of Altafulla and Rotterdam. These results gave me the chance to fight for the European ranking, in which in the end I finished in third position".
Cesc pointed out "Very happy for that, because it is the result of a good job and having been very regular during the year"; although it remains the thorn of not having been in full conditions in the final stretch, "I think I could have fought for the victory in the ranking of not having been injured this last part ... But I had to do it this way, I wanted to defend this third square.
If it had been another season or I would not have had anything in play in the ranking, I would probably have finished a month earlier, maybe after the Spanish Triathlon Championship in Banyoles. By then I was not well ... but I wanted to risk, I wanted to try to win the ranking and in the end, luckily I was able to finish third".
To conclude, Godoy pointed out that "In general terms, it has been a very good year. A year in which I've been fighting for the maximum in all the races I've played and in the end you have to take the whole year round and now to rest and recover from these annoyances that I have and hopefully next year everything will go very all right".
A year in which Godoy has offered a remarkable performance, adding a total of 1166.84 points. The triathlete from Azerbaijan, Rostislav Pevtsov has conquered the first place with 1339.08 points; while the Russian Dmitry Polyanskiy reached the second place with a final score of 1248.19.
A ranking in which they also stand out Antonio Serrat in 11ª position, David Castro, 14º and Uxio Abuin -winder in the 2015 edition-, 16º. On the other hand, in the female elite ranking Anna Godoy, 11ª, and Sara Perez, 17ª, are the two most outstanding Spanish companies of this 2016 season.
