Javier Gómez Noya "I am very happy given that I could win although it was not the essential objective"

The World Championship of this distance in Austria in August –which he already won in 2014 in Canada- is one of the goals of the Galician

The first 2015 competition in Europe Javier Gómez Noya It has been settled with victory. It was Sunday 14 in Straffordshire (in the center of the island of Great Britain) on the distance ½ Ironman (2000m swimming, 90 cycling and 21 on foot).

The World Championship of this distance in Austria in August - which he already won in 2014 in Canada - is one of the goals of the Galician and for this, according to the regulations, he had to compete in another triathlon dependent on the World Triathlon Corporation (the same organization of the Hawaii Ironman) although regardless of the result, having achieved the title in 2014.

The one from Strafforshire was chosen for both physical proximity and date: 4 weeks after its last World Series competition and other 4 before the European Olympic Distance Championship. For this reason he has been able to do a training phase with the “goat” type bike used in the 1/2 Ironman distance and with the athletics sessions focused more on 21 km than on 5 or 10 of the World Series. He competed in the Bahrain Endurance Team uniform, in which he has played since this season for competitions not dependent on the ITU International Federation.

This triathlon was organized for the first time and covered its registration quota for amateur triathletes -2500- in just 15 minutes online on 26 August 2014; what gives idea of the triathlon boom in any country in the world. The swimming was in a reservoir, while the bike and walking routes presented a lot of unevenness, as well as some sections of road in the phase on foot. Javi's feelings were excellent: "I am very happy given that I could win although it was not the essential objective. In the water I was in head next to an Australian. I became a bike leader until the German Thomschke arrived and it happened to me very quickly. I preferred not to follow his pace because it was better to get fresh to the last phase since it was very hard. He started running with 3 minutes of advantage but I overtook him at the end of the 1ª of the 3 laps and increased the difference until crossing the finish line with 5 minutes. Now I have 4 weeks of training at home for the next appointment, the European Distance Olympic Championship in Geneva, which is another of my biggest goals of the year".

After this victory, the first place is still the only one that Javier knows in the 4 ½ Ironman that has finished since its premiere in the distance in 2013. Of course, it should be specified that in one -Dubai February 2015- he did not end up due to injury in a gluteus.
