We interviewed Dani Molina: with an eye on Challenge Paguera

After his return from Chicago where he achieved the title of Acuatlon World Champion, achieving a fifth place in Triathlon in his category, he returns to Spain and, before ending the season, we will once again be able to see this renowned paratriathlete compete in a Half Distance test: Challenge - Paguera

Sports lover, constant, hardworking and above all "a normal person", as he defines himself. Dani Molina he is above all a professional accustomed to sacrifice, effort and dedication for a sport that he loves and with which he feels very fortunate: Triathlon.

As a professional What does this sport mean to you? And personally?

The Triathlon has given me a lot in these 4 years, it has given me the chance to be a professional in this sport, something I always dreamed about. I have made many good new friends thanks to Triathlon and I have traveled half the world, something I never thought I would do.

How do you manage to be, in a year and a half, Aquathlon World Champion and Triathlon World Sub-champion?

With a lot of work, sacrifice and effort. There is no other recipe to achieve your goals. Dedicating most of your time to training And especially having people by your side who help and support you every day to continue working hard.

Rio 2016 was a big blow, not only because it could not compete but because of the withdrawal of financial aid by the Spanish Paralympic Committee, what does it feel like when you do not stop fighting to overcome and obstacles like this appear? You never give up?

Well, you feel anger first, because you see how a dream suddenly disappears. Not only because of the scholarship that is important to be able to focus on your work, but because from one day to the next they take away what you have dreamed about for a long time. But you have to get up and not throw in the towel, it's hard because you have to find your own means of financing and in this country it's very complicated. I'm lucky to have many brands that support me and that helps a lot. Brands such as Orbea, Orca, Victory Endurance, Suunto, Bollé, Skechers, Jens Muller Orthopedics, Osuur, Guadalajara City Council, etc., without their help, this would be impossible. Never give up !!!

After the setback in the World Series, how do you feel? Have you recovered the 100%?

Well, the first days were hard, both morally and physically, because I finished the race very touched and I was very annoyed for several days, but we have to continue and immediately I started training again. I'm already back to 100% training well for the next goal.

How has the process of adapting the training to the Middle Distance been? Some advice in this regard.

In my case you have to be very careful with the race, it's where I suffer the most and where I have the greatest risk of injury. That is why the adaptation process must be very controlled. Throughout the winter we did a very specific load job for the middle distance, then we had to adapt the training to the short distance for the world series and the important objective of the season that was the European and World Championship. The truth is that training for medium distance is less hard than for the short, for the intensity, I enjoy more training.

What is your objective next 17 October in Challenge Paguera-Mallorca?

Enjoy, above all, because it is the last test of the season and although I am training hard these days, I want to finish the season with a good taste in my mouth. And why not get off the 6 hours.

What contributes this race to sport and physical level?

Above all enjoy a great test as is the Challenge Paguera. At sport level, it is a challenge more and physically, I suppose a great effort especially in the part of race to foot, if I do not hydrate and as well during the bike I will suffer a lot in the race, it happened to me in the 70.3 of Barcelona and I think we have learned from the error.

What new challenges await you at 2016? Do you have any other competition already scheduled? And internationally?

Well, we'll see what the 2016 has to offer, surely make some more HALF and some half marathon like the one in Madrid in April.

But the main objectives will always be the European Championship and the Triathlon World Championship and we will also try to make the Middle European Championship. And surely something new that we still have to close.
