David Castro revalidates the title of European champion Sub23 in Bulgaria

An immense David Castro has imposed himself in an intense foot race to revalidate the title of European Champion of Triathlon ETU Sub23. Spectacular final for the Spanish triathlete who has fought hard to win the European scepter.

 

 

For second consecutive Year, David Castro has climbed back to the top of the podium European Sub23 after offering an exhibition in the final leg of the race on foot. A segment in which it has also shone Antonio Serrat which has garnered a splendid fourth place, remaining at the gates of the continental podium.

Previously, the Spaniards had to overcome a first swimming sector of 750 m by the Black Sea, from which they left somewhat behind. Already immersed in the path of 20 km cyclists, Castro, Serrat and Genis Grau joined the persecuting group. Behind, the Spanish fourth in line Aleix Domenech circulated more distanced from the front. Eight triathletes escaped to the front of the race, reaping a rent close to the 24 seconds. However, the chasing block managed to catch up with the leaders during the second of the three laps of the cycling circuit.

After the cyclist's leg, the 25 triathletes' front platoon entered the second transition and after a quick passage through the T2, Castro and Grau were among the first to enter the final circuit of 5 km on foot. A segment in which the triathlete of La Roda has excelled again, standing out to lead his rivlaes in a dizzying final sprint and thus proclaim himself champion of the modality stopping the clock in 59 minutes and 51 seconds. While the Italian Dario Chitti he has won the silver medal by crossing the finish line three seconds short of the winner and the Israeli Shachar Sagiv He has conquered the bronze medal, finishing six seconds behind Castro. For his part, a splendid Antonio Serrat has been enslaving positions, to finish in fourth position.

While Genis Grau has paid the efforts made in the cycling sector finishing 40º and Aleix Domenech has not had his day in Burgas, concluding in 48ª position.

Tomorrow the Spanish team will participate at 13:00 p.m. in the mixed relay event. An explosive modality in which each of the four relievers - two boys and two girls - will have to carry out a triathlon on supersprint distance (300 m of swimming, 8 km cyclists and 1,5 km of running). Spain will seek to be crowned champion after the bronze achieved in 2015 at the Banyoles headquarters.
