The appointment, which already has more than 180 registered, will be developed on the beaches of Matalascañas and aims to strengthen the tourist projection of the area

Competition Doñana Challenge, long distance triathlon that will celebrate its eighth edition the next 30 of September in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz), will count from this year with a new test that will take place in the month of May in the surroundings of the National Park. In this way, Doñana Triathlon Playas de Matalascañas will be renamed as 'Desafío Doñana Sprint'.

This test, which will be held next May 13 in Almonte (Huelva), is a sprint mode triathlon, which will serve to extend the classic Doñana Challenge test at the start of the summer season and to extend the promotion of a unique environment such as Doñana - declared Natural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco - from the beaches of Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz) ) to those of Matalascañas (Huelva).

This new event aims to generate a tourist and sports impact throughout the area, and complement the existing test -consolidated as a benchmark of extreme triathlon nationally and internationally- with this sprint modality prior to the Sanluqueña event, and which can also serve to break the seasonality of a coastal area such as Matalascañas and surroundings at this time.

Desafío Doñana Sprint will start at 10.30 hours, with departure and arrival in the area near 'La Peña', in the beach of Matalascañas. The distances covered by all the participants will be those contemplated in the regulations for these disciplines: 750 meters by swimming - by sea -, 20 kilometers by bicycle - by asphalt - and 5 kilometers by foot - by beach -.

The test will be held at cadet, junior, senior, veteran and team categories. Registration to participate in the competition is made through the website of the Andalusian Triathlon Federation (www.triatlonandalucia.org), with a cost of 15 euros for federated athletes and 22 euros for non-federated athletes. The deadline to register is Wednesday May 10. Currently, there are already registered 187 triathletes, federated 121 and non-federated 66.

The Doñana Sprint Challenge is organized by the City Council of Almonte and has the collaboration of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Andalusian Triathlon Federation and the Almonte Triathlon Club.
