Alice Hector has achieved her third consecutive victory who dominated most of the race, while Aguayo gets her first victory in this popular competition in Lanzarote and Saleta Castro is fourth.

Emilio Aguayo and Alice Hector took the laurels of the Volcano triathlon on a cloudy, hot day on the volcanic island of Lanzarote, where more than 400 athletes were at the start line for the Olympic distance race: 1,5 km swim in the lagoon of Club La Santa, a bike tour of 40 km in the northern part of the island and a race of 10 km near Club La Santa.

After a great swim, Aguayo came second from the water (00: 19: 18) in pursuit of his Spanish compatriot Raúl Lecuona (00: 18: 55) followed by the rest of the group. However, in the bike ride was Aguayo who took the lead with an impressive time (00: 58: 10) followed by Colin Norris (GBR) (00: 59: 18), Filip van Craenenbroeck (BEL) (00) : 59: 36) and Reece Barclay (GRB) (01: 00: 04). On the track, the fight for 3 placed between Lecuona, Barclay and Van Craenenbroeck was very hard, however, Aguayo managed to keep the distance on Colin Norris and the rest of the competitors.

Undoubtedly this was the race of Emilio Aguayo who always maintained a strong pressure, winning with a total time of 01: 54: 33 with Colin Norris second 01: 56: 07 and the Canarian revelation, Raúl Lecuona in the third position (01: 58: 05). There was a big surprise at the finish line, since Norris was disqualified of the race to travel through an area not allowed in the second round of the bicycle circuit. Thanks to this, the athlete Filip Van Craenebroeck (01: 58: 10) climbed to the podium.

Saleta Castro sprint Volcano Triathlon

As for the female category, Alice Hector has achieved his third consecutive victory in the race with a time of 2: 09: 05 followed by Tessa Kortekass (2: 12: 05). The third square was disputed until the end where Celine Schaerer y Saleta Castro played an agonizing sprint, finishing third and fourth respectively

Winners' comment:

Alice Hector:

"It's a great race for me, I love the Olympic distances where the course is hard but I feel good. The race is my favorite part, I took the lead during it so it was a good sign. I had to make an effort to reach the rest in the swimming part, so to compensate I had to work hard enough on the bike, but I managed to pass the girls one by one. My coach did not want me to run very hard if I did not have to, so I was able to keep calm during the second round and try to enjoy myself a bit. And for the next edition of Volcano, well, I will also participate!".

Emilio Aguayo:

"I am very happy, we have been training hard this week at Club La Santa. I had doubts about how I was going to find, it took me a bit to get into rhythm but the race was the script that I had established. I have been injured for two months but I have found myself running well. The most difficult thing was swimming, I had a hard time picking up the pace, but overall I am very happy with everything".
