Emilio Aguayo and Sara Loehr Spanish Champions of Triathlon MD

Today the Spanish Championship has been played in Valencia in the medium distance mode.

From the first hour of the morning Valencia has welcomed the dispute of Spanish Championship of Half Distance Triathlon. A challenging competition that has enriched the local triathlete Emilio Aguayo and Sara Loehr to the top of the podium in the elite category, after performing both major exhibitions during the foot race segment.

The Valencian triathlete has come out with everything from the beginning of the competition, completing the 1,9 km of swimming featured among the first along with Iñaki Balldelou and Ramón Ejeda.

Already immersed in the cycling sector, Joan Ruvireta and Aguayo were the first classified in a test that has been developed in the modality without drafting. An amazing Ruvireta has marked the differences during the cycle section, being in front of a good part of the 90 km of the sector, and preserving the leadership at the arrival to the second transition, to then start the decisive 21 km of foot race in head. After him, Iraizoz and Balldelou were the next to leave the T2, both starting just a few seconds behind the leader.

Mediated the last sector, Aguayo, Raul Amatriain - who has been climbing positions in the course of this final third of the test - and Ejeda have taken the reins, maintaining an arduous struggle in the front. Aguayo and Amatrian have been the strongest, distancing themselves to dispute both the title at stake. Josep Torrens (CT Ferrer Hotels) entered the final stretch of the course, and in the last kilometers he managed to reach the third place and thus achieve the bronze medal.

Aguayo has made a titanic effort, motivated and driven by competing at home, CT triathlete Moncada Moncada has garnered a huge victory before his audience, obtaining a record 3: 44: 27. Together with him, and after fighting to the end in a brilliant race segment on foot, Raul Amatriain of Saltoki Trikideak crossed the finishing line to 20 seconds of the winner, obtaining the runner-up of the modality.

In females Esther Rodríguez controlled the test at the water's edge, opening a gap close to the 20 seconds and heading alone to the T1. Behind, they have completed the swimming stretch Veronica Aveni, Sara Loehr, Ivet Farriols and Dolça Olle and have started on the road to T1.

After making 45 km on the bike, Mabel Gallardo, Loehr and Olle have established themselves in the first three places of a circuit in which they have offered a great deployment of forces. At the conclusion of the same, Loehr has catapulted into the first position, accessing the T2 at the head of the contest. However, Gallardo was able to take advantage of his position in the transition zone, and after a quick change of equipment was the first to face the race segment on foot.

A sector that has passed through some of the main arteries of Valencia, crossing icons such as the City of Arts and Sciences and bordering the old stream of the Turia river. Loehr has started this section close to the triathlete from CT Diablillos de Rivas. While Olle has started in third place. The classification would become different through the sector with Loehr escaping alone and Anna Noguera progressing to second position.

The triathlete of the CN Vic-ETB has consolidated its advantage during the remaining 10 km of the race, winning with solvency, to be proclaimed champion in female elite with a final time of 04: 10: 14. Noguera (CA Igualada) has reached the second place in the category and Mabel Gallardo has closed the podium in third position.

A day in which the triathletes have faced the elements due to the high temperatures that plague the peninsula in recent days, enjoying a first class competition in the city of Turia.
