We interviewed Joaquín Peces "1 of the 3 souls - Ecotrimad"

Triathlete, organizer and coach, as well as a parent. This is Joaquín Peces a "multitasking", licensed in Inef and passionate about triathlon

Joaquín Peces, better known as "Quino" among friends, is one of the founding partners of ECOTRIMAD (2011) next to Ramiro Lahera y Antonio de la Rosa, three triathlon enthusiasts who one day decided to join their experience to create a unique event

15 years ago that Quino knew this sport "I met him in my first year at INEF. I came from football and there I met pole vaulters, judokas, swimmers, gymnasts ... and triathletes that caught my attention "

"My first triathlon I won"

"It was a qualifier in Cullera 2003. That same year the CTO wins. Spain GGEE in Águilas being the best time of all GGEE. In 2004 I was Spanish Duathlon Champion by regional teams with Madrid and in 2006 I was 3º Cto. Spain GGEE in Pulpí. I have won some other triathlon and duathlon since then but nothing remarkable. Now my big objectives are focused on the Medium and Long Distance: do 9: 15 in the Ironman of Vitoria and do Top 15 in Zarautz "

In addition to Triathlete ... Organizer!

It all started at the 2011 with the first Ecotrimad. In 2012, Ecodumad joined. In 2013 the Water circuit and the MTB Open. In 2014 the Madrid Tactika Trail and in 2015 the Sierra Norte Bike Challenge. Every year new projects are added although others fall, but always enjoying everything we do and trying to do our best.

And also ... Coach!

Since 2004 I coach athletes and clubs. Currently I train Enphorma Triathlon, Trimad, Barajas Athletics Club and Runners Clubs of Companies such as Johnson & Johnson, FCC, European Space Agency ...

And Family Father! How can you reconcile these three facets?

This year is being very complete because I am training hard and every time I train more athletes / clubs.

And how do you manage your time? Tell us how it would be you day to day How can you do all this in 24h?

- 06: 00: I get up to work or to go swimming.

- 08: 00: we woke up the children and the 08: 50 took them to school.

- 09: 15: I keep working until the 11: 00 that I usually train until lunchtime.

- 14: 30: 45 'nap approx.

- 16: 00: I keep working until the 17: 00 that the children of the school return or I leave to train groups.

- 21: 00: dinner and rest with Paloma

On weekends I train all morning and afternoon is for the kids. I also take advantage of the training of the groups that I take as part of my training.

Joaquin Fish with his family in the Triathlon Series

This year we have the help of Katia, the Aupair we have at home. Without it, this pace of life would not be possible ...

What does sport contribute to your day-to-day life?

"Between the values of the collective sport of 15 years of football and those that I have as an individual athlete, plus the 15 years of Physical Education teacher I have had a battery of resources and experiences that without realizing it we transmit to our children Paloma and I"

"Sometimes even the children tell us they do not want to go to the triathlons because they get bored. They prefer to stay at home or in a park ... "

"I think that for the children going to see us is something similar to groundhog day (laughs)"

 The first memory of ECOTRIMAD?

"The conviction of Ramiro and Antonio that this could be done. Their faces of hope for this project "

Does being a triathlete help when it comes to organizing an event?

"It is fundamental, it is the way to realize the details. Within the public triathlete does not demand the same who will win that who will participate. As you organize certain aspects some may seem a well organized triathlon and others badly organized"

"We look for in Ecotrimad that functional balance that is worth to everyone"

Any change from the first edition?

"Yes, according to the demand of the triathlete we have introduced more distances and it is celebrated in two days. The pit area is now in the village being more attractive for everyone "

and ... What is more rewarding to be a finisher in your first Media Distancia or "finisher" in your first organization of a Media Distancia?

Buff ... it's different.

As an athlete ...

I remember my first Zarautz of the 5 that I made. It was at 2004 and the feeling was very good. In addition to the animation that there is in that race I made top 30 that was not bad at all. I only understood sprint ... and as an organizer ... the first experience ... I do not wish it to anyone.

As organizer in the first edition of the 2011 ...

"I remember perfectly when the swimming began in which Ramiro, Antonio and I embraced each other because we saw that a project that we had been preparing for a year and a half"

Then came the famous hail storm that almost knocked down the test that day. We had a very bad time: public, triathletes, judges, we ... But this ... made us stronger.

Why choose ECOTRIMAD?

It is a different triathlon for the love with which it is organized and for the spectacular of the routes. It is a triathlon where you will never make your best mark in the middle ironman but you have to do it at least once in your life.

And as a coach, what advice would you give to those who have chosen this year for ECOTRIMAD to debut at this distance?

The most important is that in the first round of bike reserve forces for the second round and the race on foot. Many people start strong the first round of bike because they still have strength and think that the second round will be the same. It is a proven error in the 100% of the time.

"The second round puts you in your place"

... and let's not say the race on foot. I've never done Ecotrimad competing ... logical (laughs) but I did Alpe D'huez and on the rise of this mythical port I booked quite losing posts. When you get to the race on foot (22 kms to 2200 mts altitude) you had to see the 90% of the runners walking. During 22 kms I went to corpses. In Ecotrimad I have seen some "walking dead" of those (laughs)

And the union of these "three souls" ... does the force?

(He laughs) Ramiro, Antonio and me? ...

Nor do I want to forget Paloma, who since the idea came up in the 2009 has always been supporting.

Ramiro works all year for Ecotrimad and Antonio the other way around… during the year he supports especially with permit issues and when the date approaches, his ability to prepare everything is impressive. Let's say that I am the link between the two.

"Every time we do more things together and most importantly ... every time many things that we do are outside of what is work. We have become great friends "

ECOTRIMAD in three words?

Essential, hard, spectacular
