We interviewed Gwen Jorgensen: "From 2012 my goal is to win Gold in Rio"

Gwen is the clear dominator of the world triathlon, World Champion in 2014 and 2015 and unbeaten for almost 2 years.

Next Saturday in the Australian city of Gold Coast Gwen Jorgensen begins his assault on the third world title, which would lead him to be the first triathlete to win three consecutive titles and equate to the Australian Emma Snowsill as the triathlete with the most world wins.

In this 2016 is the favorite favorite to win gold at the Rio Olympic Games. Before starting his career in the 2016 world we have done this interview exclusively for readers of Triathlon News.

Hello Gwen, before starting the interview we want to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your entire sports career, especially these last two years where you have been world champion. You started at a late age to compete in triathlon. What was the reason for quitting your accounting job and focusing 100% on triathlon?

Triathlon is fun and I knew that I could always go back to my profession as an accountant after my sports career.

Your first ITU competition was the University World Cup of Valencia 2010. I attended that race as a spectator and I was surprised by a young girl from the USA who made a spectacular comeback on foot and won the silver medal. What do you remember about that competition?

The University World Championship was my first ITU test, my first triathlon competition outside of the USA. UU I remember that I enjoyed it a lot and I made a great time and I also enjoyed the competition a lot. I also remember that the food in Valencia was very good, we ate a lot!

Later you were growing year after year until May of 2014 where you won the WTS of Yokohama and since then you are unbeaten. What changed that day so that until today you have won all the races you have run?

Nothing changed that day. At the end of 2012 I started training with Jamie Turner and he taught me a lot about triathlon and I really grew up as an athlete. Jamie creates a fabulous environment where I train with my competitors every day and he is there to help us. That made a big difference. I have won many races in a row and it seems crazy. I think it's a mix of incredible support, hard work, a lot of investment and some luck.

What is the best competition you remember? And the city where you like to run the most?

Yokohama is my favorite place away from the USA. UU However, my best memory is from Stockholm at 2013, where I had an almost perfect career.

What are your main objectives for 2016?

From 2012 I aspire to win the gold in the JJ. OO from Rio, so that's my big goal for 2016.

Finally we know that you spend long seasons training in Vitoria. What do you like most about Spain? What is the main reason for coming here to train?

Vitoria is a great place to train. There are many spectacular restaurants. I love running on its trails and for the bike it is beautiful. At the same time there are good pools, so it's perfect for triathlon.

Thank you very much for the interview, it has been a real privilege for the Triathlon News team and for web readers to be able to talk this time.

We will be encouraging and following you throughout 2016, we wish you the best and hope to do another interview after the Rio Olympics with the gold in your hands.

Thanks to you for the support. a greeting
