Spain culminates with a gold the World Championship in Avilés

Spain closed a historic event at the top of the podium and wrapped by a public devoted to a championship that places Avilés as the seat of the world duathlon.

Behind, Spain struggled to access the first places, counting with the Asturian triathletes Laura Álvarez Bedia and Sergio Lorenzo among its first participants.

The tables would change with the entry on the scene of Mariví García. One day after harvesting the bronze medal in the individual competition, García again made another excellent exhibition in the surroundings of the Niemeyer Center, climbing positions from the first 2 km of the race. A relay dominated by the British Kinsey, in which already entered the cycling segment, the Spanish representative culminated a splendid progression placing itself at the front of the race and completing his relief in first position after overcoming a disadvantage of one minute and a half.

Emilio Martin took over and continued a brilliant path, securing the first position to give a final boost to the Spanish team to proclaim itself 2016 World Champion.

The second place was reserved to the British team with (Emma Pallant, Danny Russell, Gwen Kinsey and Carl Avery). While the ITU team, composed of the South Africans Andrea Steyn, Matthew Greer, Maude Elaine Le Roux and the Brazilian Francisco Viana were classified in third position.

For its part in the junior relay, the Italian team consisting of Francesca Crestani, Federico Spinazzé, Carlotta Bonacina and Valerio Cattabriga won with the triumph. While the Spanish team integrated by Sharon García Carrera, Andres Cendán, Txell Jarque and Juan Caro obtained the runner-up of the modality.

And with this test, an end to a unique event in which the involvement of the city, the constant support of a dedicated public that filled the routes with courage, the perseverance and enthusiasm of the more than 1400 athletes gathered in the city was brought to an end. from Avilés filled this spectacular international event with magic.
