Four Olympic triathletes among the favorites for the victory in Olympic distance

This Sunday, 9 in October, Barcelona will once again become the epicenter of the world triathlon. 3.500 athletes from 40 countries around the world have joined the most multitudinous triathlon in the country, the Barcelona Triathlon by Santander 

For the sports commissioner of the Barcelona City Council, David Escudé, "these figures show the sporting and organizational solvency of the event, both in the popular participation and in the elite athletes."

Of the set of registered people, the 19% are women and the 81% are men. The percentage of foreign participants will be 15%. Regarding the distances in which they will participate, the 60,8% will do so in Olympic distance, the 30,5% in the distance sprint and the 8,6% in the distance supersprint.

A must for professional triathletes and popular athletes, the competition will take place over three distances: Supersprint (350 m swimming / 10 km cycling / 2,5 km running), Sprint (750 m / 20 km / 5 km) and Olympic (1.500 m / 40 km / 10 km) with modalities for all types of athletes (individual, couples, relays).

Four Olympic triathletes in Rio 2016 are among the favorites to win the eighth edition of the Barcelona Triathlon by Santander. Fernando Alarza, Olympic and third in the World Triathlon Series 2016, will fight with international athletes such as Portuguese Miguel Arraiolos (Olympian in Rio, 10º World Cup Huatulco 2016), Russian Andrey Bryukhankov (3º European Cup Constanta 2016, 5º European Cup Sochi 2016) or Catalan Nan Oliveras (2015 Olympic Distance Spain champion).

In the female category, the favorites are the Olympic Mary Shorets (9ª World Series Cozumel 2016, world champion of Aquatlon 2016) and Agnieskaz Jerzyk (9ª European Championship 2016).

Belmonte, Induráin and Fiz to the Sprint triathlon

Mireia Belmonte, Miguel Induráin y Martín Fiz, ambassadors of Banco Santander, participate forming relay team in sprint distance. Mireia Belmonte, gold medal in the 200 m butterfly in the last Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro, will open the relays in swimming. Miguel Induráin, five times winner of the Tour de France, will take over in cycling and Martin Fiz, Olympic and world champion, will complete the race on foot that closes the race.
