Fernando Alarza triumphs in a Barcelona Triathlon by Santander with 3.500 participants

A great triathlon celebration that took place today in the city of Barcelona at the premiere of the new stage of Barcelona Triathlon by Santander.

More than seven hours of sport where 3.500 triathletes, professional and popular, have starred in a competition played over three distances: Supersprint (350 m swimming / 10 km cycling / 2,5 km running), Sprint (750 m / 20 km / 5 km) and Olympic (1.500 m / 40 km / 10 km).

Fernando Alarza closes the season with a victory

A les 8.10 h. In the morning, the sporting event began with the Olympic elite start. Among the favorites Fernando Alarza, Olympic triathlete and third in the World Series 2016, which closed the season in Barcelona Triathlon by Santander.

With a lot of public at the Playa de la Mar Bella, the competition has been intense from the first moment. Three triathletes, Alarza, Velázquez and Bryukhankov have dominated the race with solvency and in group, until Alarza has managed to get away in the race on foot and cross the finish line alone in 1: 44: 26. Behind spectacular the arrival of Velázquez y Bryukhankov to the sprint, which was the second and third positions respectively.

In the women's category, international podium with a great victory for the triathlete Elena Danilova (2: 00: 26). Second and third Agnieszka Jerzyk (2: 00: 36) and Mariya Shorets (2: 00: 44), Olympic triathletes in Rio who arrived, a priori, as favorites.

Belmonte, Induráin and Fiz win in Sprint relays

One more year, thousands of popular athletes have enjoyed the best scenario for sports. Personal challenges, sports experiences ... Many stories that have come together in the city today and that are already part of Barcelona Triathlon by Santander.

Like the triumph of Víctor Álvarez (59: 19) and Adriana Quintanilla (1: 11: 07) in the Sprint distance, where the victory of Mireia Belmonte, Miguel Induráin and Martín Fiz, ambassadors of Banco Santander and great figures of our sport, by relays.

In distance Supersprint, first position for Kay Eckelt (34: 09) and Gemma Díaz (37: 52).
