Fernando Alarza, new leader of the WTS making history in the World Triathlon.
With the 5ª position achieved in the WTS of Stockholm, Fernando Alarza has become the new leader in the world triathlon, in the absence of 3 tests (Hamburg, Edmonton and the Grand Final of Cozumel)
The leadership of Fernando Alarza is also a historic milestone, becoming the third Spanish after Javier Gómez Noya y Mario Mola in leading the ITU Triathlon Series since the creation of the world series in 2009.
With this leadership Spain becomes the only country (in male category) that 3 triathletes have been leading the WTS.
During these 7 years the titles have been shared only among 3 triathletes, Javier Gómez Noya (5) Alistair Brownlee (2) and Jonathan Brownlee (1), the three have been the most times leading the classification of the world, followed by Mario Mola. The New Zealander has also been a leader Devan Docherty.
Currently, Spain has an absolute dominance in the WTS, thanks to Javier Gómez Noya (reigning champion), Mario Mola (the most successful in 2016) and Fernando Alarza (leader) ... although in the last two races the Brownlee brothers have got 2 doublets. The competition of the Olympic Games is exciting.
