Galicia revalidates the title in the Spanish Triathlon Championship by Autonomies

This midday Galicia has been proclaimed champion of Spain Triathlon Autonomies for the second consecutive year in a vibrant final in which the Galician team has managed to retain the title after their victory in the mixed relay played on Sunday 24 July.

 

After two intense days of competitions, Galicia has risen to the final triumph by adding 58 points between the three tests that defined the title (the individual competitions held yesterday and the mixed relay on Sunday). A final fight in which Catalonia has reached the subchampionship with 56 points and Madrid has rounded the podium in third position computing 48 points.

During the first of the four relays (250 m of swimming, 7,2 km of cyclists and 1,8 km of running) the situation remained very even with several teams occupying the first places. In the last stretch of the race, María Rico, Kseniia Levkovska for Castilla-La Mancha and Carmen Gómez Cortés on behalf of Galicia, marked the pace in the front, managing to deliver the witness in the first places.

Immersed in the second relay, Galicia, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, Extremadura and Catalonia occupied the first places after the 250 m swimming. Completed the cyclist route, the Galician Alberto Castiñeira, Angel Salamanca for Madrid and the Castilian man Javier Romo were in front, to end up giving the turn to the following relievers in the first places.

Galicia, Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha maintained the situation after the first third, a third relay in which Catalonia managed to join the main posts. Thus, Camila Alonso, Lucía Salafranca and Sara Löehr composed the front trio.

At the last relay, everything was to be decided in a very close final. Galicia, Madrid and Catalonia were struggling to win and get the maximum points to win the national title. The three teams disputed the final stage with Antonio Serrat, Carlos Galisteo and Jordi García Gracia launched in search of victory. A triumph that would fall into the hands of the Galician team with Serrat entering first position. The components of the Catalan team got the second place and the members of Madrid the third place.

A tight final that boosted the Galician team to the top of the podium, with Catalonia in second place and Madrid signing the third place in this exciting edition of the Spanish Triathlon Championship by Autonomies.
