Mario Mola, Cesc Godoy, Carolina Routier and Anna Godoy favorites of the Garmin Barcelona Triathlon

Mario Mola and Cesc Godoy are both looking for their second victory at the Garmin Barcelona Triathlon this Sunday. In the women's category, the Barcelona defender Anna Godoy, who will defend the title, will have Carolina Routier and Australia's Natalie Van Coevorden as main rivals.

Mario Mola (Mallorca, 1990) and Cesc Godoy (Barcelona, 1986) are the two triathletes called this year to star in the great duel of elites to see who enters their name in the coveted track record of the Garmin Barcelona Triathlon which is celebrated this Sunday.

Born both, sportingly speaking, under the stele of the sensational international trajectory that the four times world champion Javier Gómez-Noya harvests, Mola and Godoy will seek this Sunday to add a new Barcelona title to their career.

Cesc Godoy was the first to taste the success in this competition by winning the 2009 edition, which also meant a confidence boost for his career considering that the victory came when he had not yet completed the 23 years. Since then, Godoy has always been a fixture on the podium, which has earned him the respect of Barcelona fans who know they always have his best local asset.

But Godoy's aspirations will clash this year with those of none other than Mario Mola. The Mallorcan is the great man to beat in the Barcelona event where he finally won the title in 2013 after two second positions in 2011, behind the Portuguese Joao Silva, and 2012, behind Fernando Alarza. Last year, Mola starred with Javier Gómez Noya in Barcelona in the great duel at the end of the season with which the world champion and runner-up said goodbye to 2014. Mola held the pace of the Galician practically the entire competition until two kilometers from the line of goal, a change of pace by the Olympic runner-up left him with no chance of victory.

Mola arrives in Barcelona as second best triathlete in the international ranking. Of this 2015 it emphasizes until now its victory in the first of the tests of the Triathlon Series, the disputed one in Abu Dhabi, where it surpassed, among others, Jonathan Brownlee or Javier Gomez Noya. He was second in Gold Coast (Australia) and third in Yokohama (Japan).

Cesc Godoy, meanwhile, has been present this year in the Triathlon Series of Abu Dhabi, Gold Coast, Auckland, Cape Town and London, where he obtained his best classification.

The participation of foreign triathletes comes this year led by American Tommy Zaferes (1986), Mario Mola's usual training partner. Zaferes debuted this year in the World Triathlon Series in the race held in London and has as one of its most outstanding results the third place he achieved in the test of the Triathlon World Cup held in Tongyeong in 2014.

Godoy, Routier and Van Coevorden, great duel of promises in females

In the fight for the title in the female category, the local Anna Godoy (Barcelona, 1992) and sister of Cesc Godoy, will try to defend the title achieved in 2014 having as main rival the Australian Natalie Van Coevorden (Syndey 1992) and the Spanish Carolina Routier (Banyoles, 1990). Godoy and Routier will look, once again, to make the most of their good conditions in the swimming phase, and the cycling groups in which all three are included could be decisive in the fight for victory, taking into account that Van Coevorden usually has better sets in the foot race. In the Garmin Barcelona Triathlon, the elites of the male and female category have the same exit, so that any cut can be decisive for the competitors, with a more than likely strategic fight.

"For me it will be a great challenge to compete in Barcelona as many great champions of this sport are part of the record of this race. It will be my first participation and I will of course try to add my name to that list of winners. For this I know that my main rival will be Anna Godoy "Van Coevorden explained when confirming his participation.
