Gustavo Rodríguez and Mavi García Champions of Spain of Duathlon MD in Orihuela

In the male category, victory has been for Gustavo Rodríguez thanks to a large cycling segment, where he has taken the head and has not abandoned it until the finish line. While in the female category Mavi Garcia He has mastered the test with authority from the beginning.

Today the second FETRI championship of Spain of 2017 has been celebrated, the duathlon of medium distance, with the VI edition of the Orihuela Duatlon "Viento del Pueblo" that is part of the circuit No Drafting Series At the 9: 00 have taken the first duathletes, which disputed the elite championship. Five minutes later the women have done it, later the paratriathletes and the age groups.

The test consisted of 16km of running, followed by 66km of cycling to finish with 8km of running race.

After the first sector Víctor del Corral was the first to reach T1 with a time of 49:09, Josep Torres was 8” behind and Gustavo Rodríguez was almost 30” along with Daniel Bayón. For his part, Rubén Peñuela did it in 11th position, 1 minute behind Gustavo.

The cyclist segment is a recital by Gustavo Rodríguez soon takes the lead and begins to increase the pace reaching only the T2 with the best partial of all participants. Víctor del Corral got off the bike in second place to almost 5 'Gustavo while Rubén Peñuela starred in the big comeback of the day, going from the 11ª plaza in the T1 to the 3ª in the T2 arriving with Josep Torres less than 1 minute from Del Corral.

The final victory was for Gustavo Rodríguez who was dedicated to keeping the distance in the last sector. The second place was for Víctor del Corral and third to second place came Rubén Peñuela. The fourth position was achieved by Ibai Alba and the fifth Josep Torres.

As far as women's competition is concerned Mavi García was the absolute dominator from start to finish. During the first kilometers of the race Alba Reguillo was able to maintain a few seconds but Mavi arrived at the T1 with 2 'advantage over La Mancha and 1 minute of Alba arrived a quintet formed by Lucia Pérez, Marina Burgaya, Hana Maksimava, Sonia López and Leonor Font.

The cycling sector was still a monopoly of Mavi who continued to increase the advantage ... while in other participants the competition took great emotion due to changes in positions. The Bulgarian Hana Maksimava came second to the second to the T2 and third was a great Yéssica Pérez who had covered the 66km without a goat, with a conventional road bike.  

The final victory was for Mavi Garcia, who despite not being forced to force in the last 8km kept running at a good pace which meant that only 17 men were ahead of her in the general. The second position in the competition was for the Bulgarian Hana Maksimava. Third in goal and silver medal the Jaén Yéssica Pérez. The bronze medal was for Ana Revilla, fourth being Maria Remedios Carrasco and fifth Sonia Lopez.

With the triumphs of today Gustavo and Mavi repeat triumph last year, for the Balearic is his third consecutive title. Highlight the great comebacks carried out in the cycling sector of Rubén Peñuela and Yéssica Pérez, later holding up very well the third segment of the race on foot.

Note that with the bronze of today Ana Revilla adds his second medal FETRI 2017 after the silver of the national winter triathlon. Finally, the great joys of seeing Josep Torres and María Remedios Carrasco in competition after a hard year of injuries.
