Gustavo Rodríguez and Margarita Vic Champions of Spain Duathlon LD

Today the Duathlon "Vientos del Pueblo" in Orihuela has been disputed

 

Margarita Vic García y Gustavo Rodríguez they have crowned Spanish Champions of Long Distance Duathlon this afternoon in Orihuela. The cold of the first hours of the morning has given way to a sunny day in which near 500 duathletes faced a Duathlon "Winds of the People" that presented a renewed scene in a city full of history.

The initial segment was defined by a first group of about five duathletes fighting in the front, among them Raúl Amatraian, Pablo Martín and Antonio Roldán. Towards the end of the 16 km, Martín began to blunt and reached the first transition in the lead, followed very closely, just six seconds, by Roldan.

Martín dominated a cycling sector that developed through the magnificent landscapes of the Sierra Escalona and the La Pedrera reservoir. Mediated the segment, about to crown the port of Rebate, Joan Nadal who had begun this journey to progress to the first places, approached the leadership and went on the hunt for Martin, with Gustavo Rodriguez also advancing and placing a few 20 seconds. Shortly after, Nadal and Rodriguez asaltaban the leadership in a hard fought to take control of the test.

Gustavo Rodríguez component of AD Tri Penta Terras de Lugo has been in the lead of the T2, and during the final third of 8 km has consolidated its advantage, to thus be proclaimed champion with a final time of 3: 05: 44. Next For its part, Joan Bautista Nadal Clar of the Llucmajor CN, crossed the line of goal in second position, stopping the chrono in 3: 07: 06. While one of the great surprises of the day, Pablo Martín López  (3: 08: 12), has completed a superb performance rising to the third step of the podium.

Margarita Vic García She has led the female elite from start to finish, in a competition that she faced with the mission of revalidating the title won in the 2015 edition. García Cañellas has taken the lead from the first bars of the event. Behind her, Alba Reguillo placed second during the initial 16 km of the test.

Afterwards, and already immersed in the cycling circuit, the CE Caldentey athlete set a very high pace to extend her advantage for the final leg of the race on foot. Tusell has been going up during the 65 km of cycling, a segment that crossed the Sierra Escalona and La Pedrera Reservoir. An arduous sector made up of a positive / negative slope accumulated around 897 m including the climb to the Rebate pass.

At the exit of the T2, an unstoppable Margarita Vic García has gone straight for the national scepter. Entering the finish line with a final time of 3: 30: 49 and achieving his second consecutive title of the specialty. The runner-up has fallen into the hands of Merce Tusell (CN Reus Ploms) and Leonor Font CN Mataró has won the bronze medal.
