Helena Herrero finishes 7ª at the Ironman in Copenhagen

47-year-old Andreas Niedring took third place

Today a new edition has been disputed Ironman Copenhagen (Denmark) where the Spanish Helena Herrero has obtained a meritorious 7ª position.

Helena, triathlete of the Real Canoe NC team, has done a very regular race, she started in 7th place in the water, a position she held during the 180kms of cycling. At no time was she able to get close to the top6, since the rest of the triathletes performed some very good cyclists, unattainable for Helena. Later, with a time of 3h24min in the marathon (4th partial) he was able to cut a lot of time, although not enough to improve the 7th position he got at the end.

The competition was won by the local Michelle Vesterby going down from the 9hs. In second place came the Belgian Sofie Goss with a time of 9h3min and in 3ª position the German ended Sonja Tajsich with 9h8min. Great level of the first three down all of 9h20min.

In the men's race victory for the Brazilian Guilherme Valenza Monocchio with a time of 8h24min and 2ª position for the local Henrik Hyldelund to 7min of the winner. But the deed of the day was played by the German Andreas Niedring that was 3º (it will be 48 years in October) who made the best swimming and cycling segment, planting in the T2 with more than 5 'advantage over Monocchio.

The history of Niedring is impressive. In the middle of the 80 with 20 years was a member of a gang that spent time stealing to get money for drugs, was addicted to heroin and his life seemed destined to live hooking and die young ... but thanks to the love of his wife Sabrina and of the triathlon, Andreas was rehabilitated, he wrote a book telling about his hardships with drugs and how sport gave him back his life.

He became top7 in the IM World of Hawaii'01 and 2º in Roth that same year. Currently at almost 48 years is still competing as PRO in Ironman and getting great results like this podium in Copenhagen.
