The ITU plans to change the distance Olympic Games Sprint

Currently the test that is disputed in the Olympic Games is about Olympic distance, 1.5 km of swimming, 40 km of cycling and 10 km of running and if finally it is decided to change the format, it will be played in 750 of swimming, 20 km of cycling and 5 on foot.

As reported by the British newspaper The Times, Marisol Married, President of the ITU and member of the International Olympic Committee, has admitted that she would like to reduce the distance to make this sport more exciting and more attractive to the viewer.

This format will be much faster and spectacular, however it will favor the fastest athletes of the circuit, while the World Series will compete mixing Olympic distance and sprint and reward the most regular.

In the article, the two-time Olympic Champion Alistair Browlee admit that this change can be an error, These are his statements:

"It's quicker and more dynamic from a spectator point of view, but I've lost count of the number of people who have come up to me and said it's the toughness of the event that appeals," he says. "It would be a real shame to lose that."

It is clear that it can be a decisive factor for the triathlon to go one step closer to the show and reach a lot more people, but will the essence be lost?
