Javier Gómez Noya starts season in New Zealand

Noya will compete in the Port of Tauranga Half in the relay event

The Spanish Javier Gomez Noya,  with five ITU World Championships (2008, 2010, 2013-15), two Ironman 70.3 Championships (2014 and 2017), one XTERRA World Championship (2012) and a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics: he will participate in the event for relays, along with his partner kiwi Anneke Jenkins and your physiotherapist Oscar Vicente Rodríguez.

Jenkins will lead the team in the 2km of swimming in Pilot Bay, with Gómez facing the 90km cycling tour between Mt Maunganui and Papamoa, to finish with the relief of Rodriguez in the 21.1km race, which leads to the base of the mountain.

This competition will be the first official test of the year for Gomez, after a stellar 2017 that, together with his victory in the Ironman World Championship 70.3, got a second place at the WTS ITU (Abu Dhabi and Montreal). This year he is aiming to compete in his first Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, in September.

The test will start on Saturday, January 20, 7:30 a.m. local time (19:30 p.m. Spanish time)

Jenkins is one of the best triathletes in her own right. Coming from a strong fund he received the emerging talent prize from the New Zealand Triathlon at 2013. She won the Aquathon 2014 World Championship and was second in the European Cup event in Spain at 2014 and 2016.

The 29º Edition of the Port of Tauranga Half has gathered great as the veteran Cameron Brown who will be looking for his eleventh title he won for the last time at 2014. Among the favorites to victory we find Mike Phillips, winner of the Ironman Barcelona, ​​who got the fastest debut in a test of this distance, Graham O'Grady ,Michael PooleThe Australian Alexander PolizziSimon Cochrane, Mark Bowstead y Dylan McNeice.

In the women's test the favorite is Amelia Watkinson Two times winner of the test that returns after an outstanding year in the Asian circuit. Other triathlies to be taken into account will be Melissa Hauschildt, who is on a hot streak after winning the Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship in November and the Sunsmart Ironman in Western Australia in December, Teresa Adam, Rebecca Clark y Pip Meo.
